do you really get to see some animals, trying to decide between BCV or ADV Savannah View.

We take a savannah room -- why else would we stay at AKV but for the animals?;)

OK, I know you can see the animals from the lobby windows or go out to the main savannah area to be closer but the ability to see the animals at any time from your room ... eating breakfast on your balcony and watching the animals eat/walk around ... coming back from the parks and seeing a wilderness stampede (Yes, we did!) ... waking up in your PJs and looking out the window or going on your balcony to see them ... having our 2yo daughter occupied by herself looking out and seeing the animals ... these were great experiences for us and honestly the only reason to choose AKV IMHO.

We don't always have the chance to make a special trip down to the main savannah area by the pool (Jambo) but we always have time to look out our windows and go to the balcony for a few minutes or longer.

We don't "linger" that much in our room at other resorts but at AKV we do ... makes the whole trip more relaxing.

Sorry, forgot to specifically say -- yes, you really do see animals. Not 100% of the time since they are free to roam around the savannah and depending where your room is located, you may/may not have a full view.

But overall, you will see animals. We've been there twice and each day, in fact each time we look out it is different.

Don't assume your view will be 10-20 animals all running around right in front of your room -- not going to happen...figure more on a handful of animals, grazing, sleeping, walking around, at any given time.

Its the whole reason AK was built. Yes, it is worth the points for Savannah View. If you are point short, the value rooms can not be beat and there is a chance you still might get Savannah view.

How much time do you spend at the parks? We found that we spent very little time in our room and felt like we wasted points on the Savannah view.AKV is our favorite resort but from now on we plan to book standard view.

which would be a better vacation to you? Having a giraffe or two grazing / sleeping 70 feet from your balcony or hanging out at stormalong bay and walking to Epcot/MGM?

To me it's a wash - love both, but want to experience our new home and all that goes with it for now :)

If you have a relaxed am (coffee on the balcony) and an afternoon nap at "home" you can get a lot of animal viewing time! I found that the late afternoon was prime animal time on the sunset savannah

I definitely agree with you!

Commando-style touring folks do not appreciate the savannah views ... so you have to determine if you are a stop to smell the roses or a go-go-go in the parks all day one. You certainly don't want to waste your points with a savannah view if you aren't going to use it!;)

We still do the parks commando style but that doesn't mean that we don't enjoy the animals outside our room when we get up in the morning. I'm usualy up at dawn looking for critters. :)

yes, it is definitely worth it. AKV savanna view is essentially the same points as BCV. My children viewed the animals on the savanna as another magical Disney experience, just as the parks.

Going on the balcony in the night, early morning and seeing the animals is a very special treat! A savannah view would always be my preference, but sometimes I have to settle for other views. I have found that I like AKV enough to go there and enjoy the visit even if I'm not in savannah view. Sometimes I just don't have the points to spare for another of my favorite resorts and standard and value point values are bargains.

Bobbi:)

Going out on your balcony first thing in the morning and sitting and watching giraffes walk around and only hearing the birds make noise is the reason I bought into AKV.

Defiantly worth it!

I think the savanna view is definitely worth the points, but it's not essential to enjoying the resort. There are plenty of other opportunities to see the animals, and so many other things to do at AKV. :cloud9:
