Okay, so I really am interested in DVC and really like the look of AKV. I've been reading a lot of threads and have come across some really good information, but I still have questions.

1. What are the odds of 50 point contracts at AKV passing ROFR?

2. I know they are offering a minimum of 100 points thru direct purchase, does anyone know how long they will offer this?

3. If you buy in at 50 points, is it easy to add on points later? I've been reading that many people do the smaller contracts to make it easier to pay cash, but how difficult is it when adding on.

4. If you do add on points, what if they are at another resort? Do you get to reserve at 11 months out with all of the points, or just the ones at that resort? (Ex. 50 points at AKV and 50 points at OKW, could you book 11 months out at AKV with all 100 points?)

5. The use year is kind of confusing. When I look at the resale info some of it reads like it is in a different language....."30 points currently available (19 + 11 points in "Reservation Status" which need to be used by 10/1/08, 53 points coming on 10/1/08 (3 + 50 borrowed points from 2009), 0 points coming on 10/1/09 and 50 points coming on 10/1/10. Priced at $94 per point." :headache: What does all of this mean? :scared: Is that english?

6. What is the deal with Disney Visa when purchasing DVC? I have seen reference to several different things, but wasn't sure if it was old.

7. If BLT really is a DVC, if I bought in at 50 points (thru resale) now at AKV, would I be able to add on like 50 points at BLT pretty easy?

8. When DVC opens in Hawaii, would the points owned at AKV (or any other resort at WDW) be available for use there? Or DLR?

9. Are there any incentives in taking the tour? I don't want to waste my time on vacation if I don't have to. :cutie:

Okay, I think that is all of my questions for now. I never knew there was so much to know about DVC until I started researching it.

1. What are the odds of 50 point contracts at AKV passing ROFR?

depends on how much you are paying. do a search for the ROFR thread and see if other posters have said what AKV is passing at...

DVC is hugely unlikely to ROFR a contract at over $104 (after incl. closing costs) just to resell them for $96 or less after incentives.

2. I know they are offering a minimum of 100 points thru direct purchase, does anyone know how long they will offer this?

nope.

3. If you buy in at 50 points, is it easy to add on points later? I've been reading that many people do the smaller contracts to make it easier to pay cash, but how difficult is it when adding on.

really, super easy. and zero closing costs. (you don't usually get incentives, though...but with no closing costs for add-ons, it still usually beats resale.)

4. If you do add on points, what if they are at another resort? Do you get to reserve at 11 months out with all of the points, or just the ones at that resort? (Ex. 50 points at AKV and 50 points at OKW, could you book 11 months out at AKV with all 100 points?)

just the ones at that resort until you hit the 7 month window.

you may want to scan threads at random and use the search function to learn more about DVC before buying. it can be very instructive...and you can learn things you didn't know to ask...

:scared: Is that english?

banking and borrowing (and trading out) are useful benefits but they can confuse the issue for newbies.

in that case: the 3 pts can be banked into the next use year (2009) but the 50 borrowed pts from 2009 UY cannot be put back and will expire on 9/30/09 if not used by that date. if you want to book a stay in the 2009 UY (between 10/1/09 and 9/30/10), you can only use the 3 pts from 2008, if you bank them, and 50 pts from 2010, if you borrow them.)

as for "reservation status" in the 2007 UY...i'll just quote a FAQ:

What does it mean when points are in "reservation status"?

When an owner makes a reservation outside the Disney Vacation Club Resorts (such as a cruise, or a stay at the Polynesian hotel), then cancels that reservation, DVC designates them as "reservation" points. Basically they have designated those points for usage outside the DVC resorts and they can't be "put back". Reservation points can be used for any of the Disney hotels, the Concierge Collection, cruises, etc. The only thing they cannot be used for are staying at the DVC Resorts or the World Passport Collection. Reservation points must be used within the use year they are designated and may not be banked, borrowed or transferred.

so the "reservation status" pts can NOT be used to book a DVC room while the other 19 pts can...

6. What is the deal with Disney Visa when purchasing DVC? I have seen reference to several different things, but wasn't sure if it was old.

if you buy direct, DVC may give an incentive for using disney visa to purchase. most resale companies do not allow any credit card to be used for any part of the purchase.

7. If BLT really is a DVC, if I bought in at 50 points (thru resale) now at AKV, would I be able to add on like 50 points at BLT pretty easy?

if it really is a DVC, then yes. easily.

8. When DVC opens in Hawaii, would the points owned at AKV (or any other resort at WDW) be available for use there? Or DLR?

again, if it opens and if it's a standard DVC, then yes, assuming there is availability at the 7 month window.

IMO availability is a reasonable assumption for HI during some parts of the year but will be much more rare at DLR (GCV.)

9. Are there any incentives in taking the tour? I don't want to waste my time on vacation if I don't have to. :cutie:

not much. maybe fastpasses or relatively small giftcards for lunch or dinner. at least some ice cream.

but they will streamline the tour if that suits your schedule.

Thanks, Chalee94! I have been reading a ton of threads and using search when it works, and I have learned a ton. ::yes:: I definitely do not recall reading anything about the "reservation status". Thanks for posting from the FAQ!! :thumbsup2 I think I understand it now.
