We did the Wayama safari, which starts about 4 pm, and ends before dusk. It includes a wonderful meal at Jiko. It is for up to 12 people. We had about 8 in our group. Only my husband and I went, and it was perfect for an adult couple, because the meal includes wine pairings for each of the dishes. It include a small group safari around the various savannas on the Animal Kingdom Lodge grounds. We got a lot of individual attention in terms of asking questions. I learned about which animals are on each savannah. On this particular safari, you don't get out and walk around, but, the animals, mainly giraffes, like to get up close to the vehicle. As our guide explained, some of the animals were placed on the savannahs at the lodge instead of the Kilamanjaro Safari because of behavior issues, like wanting to get too close to the vehicles. It cost about $200, and, to me, it was worth every penny. It was the highlight of our trip. I am not sure how much small children would enjoy this particular safari. I think my 16 yo son would have enjoyed it, but he was in Tampa visiting cousins.
I had hoped to get to do the Sunrise Safari, but, unfortunately, it was not available the week we went in June. I specifically booked the concierge level for this coming June, 2015, but, it has been discontinued. So, I am trying to schedule the late at night safari for our upcoming trip in June, which is less expensive than the Wayama safari, but, kids need to be 7 or older to go. I had been thinking of bringing the cousins from Tampa, but, the youngest is just 6 this year.
