AKV - New Developer Points Incentive

Here were my choices for AKV for a 160 point contract:

1) get $8/pt off the $104 base price = $15360; first allotment of points in Sept 07 (my use year).

2) take 320 "developer points" and pay full $104/pt price = $16640; have 320 points to use in first 7 months (unbankable), still get my first allotment of points in Sept 07.

Since we were taking a vacation this year anyway, we decided to take the points and that lets us bank our first official allotment of points into the 08 use year. If I rent the excess developer points I have, I'm going to end up paying an extra $200 or so over the $15360 and I'll have an extra 160 points banked into 08 (vs. actually being ~50 points in the hole in 08 for the same vacation this year).

It was a no brainer for me to take the developer points. Even if I can't rent the points, it will still be a pretty good deal for me.

Considering you previously thought the upfront costs were twice as much as they actually are, I'm not surprised! It's quite a deal from that perspective - half off!

Heck yeah, LOL. Again, I'm an idot at times with these things, no matter how much I read!

Somehow I guess I assumed, there's that word, hehe, there was an initial buy in cost, the 15 or so K, then the points purchase. This eh, really does change everything!

Do you have to buy the whole 160 pts to get the double points? We own a 100 pt at BCV and wouldnt mind adding on 100 points at AKV, would I get 200 points? I am thinking no but its worth it to ask

I was told it was a min 100 points to get the developer points, thats at AKL
and if you bought 100 you would get 200 (developer points are doubled) But the developer ones need to be used within 7 months

Are you sure the points are unbankable? We got the same deal and we got to bank our 160 regular points, but not the developer points...

Correct.

Your "normal" points can be managed as they normally would be - used or banked.

The developer points cannot be banked.

Oh gosh - I think add-on-itis is starting to hit. I was trying to hold out for a CRV add-on, but double developer points might just push me over.

I have a Jan. 08 trip planned. If I get developer's points, could I use them for my Jan. reservation (assuming it's within 7 months) and then get my other points back so I could bank them for next year?

Are these double developer point only good if you purchase AKL or can they be used if you buy SSR

hubby & I just got back Wed night after taking the DVC tour Tuesday. If we decide to purchase , we have till Sat midnight to decide between the double developer points vs the lower point cost.

Question for those who got the double points on AKV - did you get the $101 price PLUS the double developer points or the new $104 price w/ double developer points? I was under the impression it was the $101 price w/ double points (in lieu of the $8.00 incentive)

To the OP, if it were me, I would upgrade my room. Since we usually stay in a studio, I would make it a 1 bedroom. OR, I would invite more people to go. Or both! Or use the points for something crazy, like a stay at a nonDVC resort, such as Poly or GF, which I would never do unless I had a bunch of points that I would lose otherwise.
