I found this map at DVCNews.com...

I have a value studio booked for one night and a value 1BR booked for 4 nights in June. I know where the value rooms are located, along the Ostrich Trail and Giraffe Trail. This map gives me a great idea of where our rooms might be located, and what to request.

My question is, what are those rooms across the halls? On this map, it's the area in white along the front of the building. Are those standard guest rooms and part of the AKL? I had thought that the entire 5th floor had been converted to DVC units. I think I also read somewhere that there were AKL concierge rooms on the fifth and sixth floor. Does anybody know?

If I am rembering correctly, those white areas indicate there are no rooms on the fifth floor there. There are AKV concierge rooms on the 6th floor, around the lobby, AKV savanna (left side of lobby in that picture) and standard (right side) on the fifth floor, and AKL concierge on the 4th. The concierge lounge is on the sixth floor. The sixth floor exists only in that lobby area.

All of the AKL hotel rooms on 6th floor (15 in total) were converted to DVC villas. Most but not all of the 5th floor was converted. Most of the parking lot view hotel rooms were not converted and are still AKL hotel rooms. Only six parking lot view rooms were converted and made into two 2BR lockoffs. The suites facing the Arusha Savanna (located just on either side of the lobby) were also not converted to DVC villas.

AKL (hotel) Concierge guests are now housed on the 4th floor.

They are standard guest rooms. Which is fine by me, since they have a great view of the parking lot. :thumbsup2

I agree. It makes booking a Value room more attractive since the odds of getting a parking lot view are pretty small. But I would really like to know how this came about. Did AKL want to hang on to those rooms because there is a demand for these less expensive standard view rooms? Or did DVC not want to take any more parking lot view rooms than they absolutely had to? I would love to know!

Although I hadn't requested it when I made my reservation, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I have a "dedicated value studio" for our first night. This is great since it is a guarantee that we will have either a savanna or a pool view. I requested a pool view for our 1BR, figuring that most people request savanna view only. If I request pool view (and nobody else does!) then I think I may have an actual chance of getting it. If I requested savanna view (like everyone else does) then I have a chance of getting one of those 2 views of the concrete savanna!:rotfl: Either way, I am going on vacation so I'll be happy to be at the AKV!:yay:
