We are going in January, staying in a std room any advice on where to request? We are me 61 and active DW 56 also and DD 28. I know the higher floors are better but any other thoughts on views?

If you don't mind a loooong walk, the reclassified partial Pembe savanna rooms are a nice view for standard points.
(Just request Pembe)

And with savanna view, lower (closer to animals) is generally better.

If you want that savanna view mentioned above, you could request a room near the standard GVs or the Pumba elevator but be prepared for very long walk to lobby and bus stop. If you want pool view and shortest trip to pool, request room near the Rafiki elevator (that elevator to ground floor gives you shortest possible walk to pool). If you do not care about view but want to be close to lobby and bus stop request either close to community hall or the Timon elevator.

The 2 savanna's around Kidani are Pembe and Sunset

The elevators are named after Lion King characters. (Pumba)

And by loong walk.. That room was 50 rooms (25 on each side of the hall) past the lobby

When we stayed in a 1br at Kidani we were in a room that was practically in another time zone (maybe 4/5 rooms from the end of the hallway). When we parked in the garage, we parked in the spaces at the very end of the lot and used the Pumbaa elevator. That walked SUCKED. It sucked so much that we won't stay in Kidani again for fear of having a room out in the boonies again, which is a shame cause the room itself was great.

HH to Turtle Pond, an outside walk, is just short of 1/4 mile; Kidani lobby to end rooms on the north wing of Kidani (where Pembe is), while walking inside down its long, winding hallway, is just short of 1/3 mile, add about 90 yards if coming from bus stop; and the travel between time zones quip has additonal humor to add to it; AKV is so large it is in two different counties, Orange (where the other resorts are) and Osceola. The walk to standard rooms near the Pumba elevator are somewhat shorter than that third mile but longer than a quarter mile. A big difference in the walks is atmosphere. When you are walking 1/4 mile outside with pleasant scenery, it does not seem like much; when you are walking that distance and greater down a long, contained hallway, it feels like forever.

I must have gotten lucky. I asked for elevator close to lobby and had a 90 second walk once I hit the doors.

I always get confused because when I do a gMap, pedometer reading from the Kidani Lobby to the end of the Pembe wing is only a ¼ mile, the same as the distance from the pool area at Turtle Pond to Hospital House at OKW. It is further than anything at BLT, but it isn't to the end of the of earth. Not everyone can be luck like djohn06 and have a room practically on top of the lobby. Personally I don't really care, less folks walking in front of my villa further out so it's quieter. I feel like you walk farther getting into Spaceship Earth from the handicap parking at Epcot since that is up hill, although the distance is similar.

It just depends. If you have little reason to go to the lobby it doesn't matter, because you can park in the far parking lot and take that elevator up directly to that end of the resort, and the walk from the elevator to those rooms isn't bad. We've been over by the Pembe savannah for both of our two stays, and we didn't find it that bad.

You can also shortcut the long hallway walk by going down to the parking lot and exiting towards the pool area when you reach it, and then walking to the lobby or bus transportation. It's more of a direct line than sticking indoors in the hallway all the way to the lobby.

As I said in my original question walking doesn't bother either of us but trying to get as close to a savannah was our goal.

Ty everyone
