Have reserved a 2 bdrm @ kidani for July. There will be 7 + an infant. We would prefer to have a room with 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom. Am I correct that his would be a dedicated 2 bdrm? Does anyone know if there is a map that shows where these room types are located?

I don't know where there is a map, but I believe that's the difference with the dedicated 2 bedroom. We just had a ded. 2 bedroom at Kidani in January and it was great with the 2 queens.

Pixieflip: Hope you don't mind me asking did you have sav or std view? I have a sav view reserved and am wondering if the extra expanse is worth it.

Be sure that the reservation says "dedicated." That's how you know what you will get. We had a great one in May last year.

We did have a Savanna View. It was breathtaking. We were there during that week of record breaking cold weather, so the animals were a little less active, but we sure saw plenty, we were very pleased. We'd be getting ready for the day and we'd drop everything to go watch the giraffes. Or we were home for the night and the zebras would wander up to our area and we'd spend 30 minutes on the balcony together...kids in their jammies and everything. The planned trips to viewing areas would be fine if that's how you had to spend your points (on a non savanna view), but boy was it special to have the animals RIGHT there.

Not sure how it will be in July, but the animals seemed to be most active in the late afternoon which is typically when we'd be at the parks. We happened to catch them twice then. Check with others who have traveled in the summer months, that may change in the hot weather. However, they do animal checks every day in the mornings and that can affect how many you will see, depending on when your savanna takes it's turn off stage. That doesn't mean you won't see anybody out there, just know that's going on and be sure to ask the guides what you can expect for your particular week.

Congrats on the savanna view! Well worth it!:thumbsup2

Pixieflip--We just left Kidani and had a lock-off which was the Studio and 1 bedroom and the we only had a queen in the studio.

tigergrad--We just stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with a savannah view for our very 1st DVC trip. We figured what the heck go for the gusto for our 1st trip. Though, it was awesome to see animals from our balcony I wouldn't do it again. I would rather save my points and just do a standard view. We are not people who stay in our rooms and we can see the animals from the viewing decks and from the windows in the hallways. With having said that. I think a savannah view is something everyone should experience once just to say you did and then you can be the judge on if it was worth the extra points or not.

I have to agree with PP. We stayed AKV Savannah view for our first trip home. It was nice to see animals right outside, but they put the animals up for about 2 hours in the morning(8-10) to clean, feed and check the animals. We usually left the room by 10 so we did not get much animal time. They also have many viewing sections off the lobby to sit and watch the animals.

I'd save the $$ and/or points and get a standard.

And yes, the 2bedroom dedicated had the 2 queens.

If your group has not had a SV villa before go for it. It is so relaxing watching the animals. My SIS just brought a DVC membership at AKV because they stayed at Jambo House in December on a OCR and they loved it. Her family has always gone commando style when visiting WDW and came home exhausted. In December they found that watching the animals on their balcony helped them to relax and they found they enjoyed their vacation so much more. There is something about have your coffee or juice and watching the animals in the morning. Even if we left early to get to the park for the rope drop (including Magic hours), we still took time to watch the animals first.

P.S. Dedicated 2 BRs in a DVC always have two queen beds in the second bedroom. Lock-off 2BR villas have a queen bed and a double pull out sofa.

No, unfortunately, there are 2 bedrooms that are dedicated in BCV with only the queen and a pull out. There was a problem with the size/design of some rooms. At BCV, you have to request a "dedicated 2 bedroom with 2 queens" if that's what you want. It will state that on the reservation.

We stayed in a dedicated two-bedroom SV this past November. The other perk in getting the dedicated room versus the lock-off is that the balcony goes the length of the entire villa. It is BIG!

For us, the SV was the appeal at staying at AKL. I am not sure I would stay there if I didn't have a SV room.

You will love the space in the villa and the extra bathroom. As others have said, the animals are simply amazing.

The hallways are quite long at AKL Kidani. So if call back to request a dedicated two-bedroom, you might want to request a room near the lobby as well if you don't like walking that "extra mile" at the end of the day.

Ditto to that request for close to the lobby. Dedicated 2BRs at Kidani (all of those have the two queens in the second bedroom) are located throughout the resort. You should ask for the dedicated (it is guaranteed if you get it) close to the lobby. The last 2BR on the north wing is over 1/4 mile from the lobby down the endless hallway to nowhere and with an infant that walk would be excruciating particularly coming back late after a full day in the park.

This is good to know! We'll be staying at Kidani in a dedicated, as far as I know, and we'll have my 8 month old niece with us. I'll have to double check with the fiance and let him know! Thanks! :thumbsup2

The hallways in Kidani are ridiculous!!! I really wish I would have known this before going down there. I definately would have asked for a room closer to the lobby were in the 8th section which is 70 rooms in. That walk seems like forever after a long day at the parks.

We were at Kidani in a dedicated 2 bedroom Savannah view around Thanksgiving last year. I requested "near the lobby" and ground floor (which was 2nd I believe) since we have elderly parents and we wanted them to walk as little as possible. The Savannah view was great since our Dad only went to the park 1 day and had a nice view when he was in the villa. We were with a large family group of 13 and my immediate family and I were actually in a standard studio nearby. Our view was of the parking lot! So we pretty much just slept in that room and went to the 2 bedroom unit after we were dressed for the day. My sister is the owner and she is planning a return trip this November with girlfriends. Her choice this time was a Kidani 2 bedroom STANDARD view. Her feeling was that she wanted to save the points since they were going to spend most of their time in the parks and if they wanted to see the animals they could just go to the public viewing areas.

Does anyone have pictures they can share of the Savanna view rooms and the Savanna? We are going in October and I'd like to get the Savanna view. Any suggestions on room numbers for Dedicated room would be great also.

:surfweb:

Here's a few. I believe they were taken from the balcony of dedicated room 7238? Not sure. I requested close to the lobby and 2nd floor.

There are my old friends!! Aren't they beautiful?? Our favorites were the zebras. There was one who was particularly naughty, kicking up his heels at the other animals. He was chasing the other zebras, then got the giraffes all riled up and we got to see them gallop to get away from him! Then he went up to the antole cattle who just gave him a look like, "do you not see these horns? You've got to be kidding me." Then the zebra left him alone and scattered the ostriches in every direction. It was really entertaining. On another day there was the antelope who was bending forward to scratch the very back of his head on a bush. He scratch and scratched and tore up that bush/patch of wild grass. When he was done he stood up and walked around with a giant tuft of grass stuck on his horns like a football player with turf in his facemask. The kids will never forget our time on our balcony.

I think SV is the only way to go but that's why there are choices for all. I really enjoyed sitting in the am with my coffee before the kids got up and watching the animals. The kids got a kick out of watching the animals and it was nice to come home from the parks and we would all sit out for a few minutes and talk about the day and watch the animals. I think its worth the extra points. Just a little more Disney Magic to enjoy.

I totally agree! :goodvibes

We are looking forward to our SV at AKV to relax after a week of hard core Disney during our first week at BWK. I love seeing all the pictures of the animals.
