We happened upon 8 nights at Jambo in a standard view studio in December. Just wondering what, if any, requests we should put in via Member Services for a room (as in, what is the best request to put in to potentially get a partial savannah view). The only options via online check in are near elevator and near lobby.

Thanks much.

I usually request Kudu trail when I have a standard view booked at Jambo, since all the Kudu trail standard view villas abut Sunset savanna. Note, I don’t mind having a villa at the end of the hallway because I like looking out the big windows at Arusha & Sunset savannas on my stroll to/from my villa - others may be walked out from park visits and prefer to be located closer to the lobby. Here are a couple of my standard views on Kudu trail, the first was at the end of Kudu & a long way from the lobby but because it was close to Sunset savanna’s barn I saw a lot of animals & the giraffes were there so often I sort of felt bad for those w/ savanna views because the giraffes spent so much time hanging out near our lowly standard view 😂 . The second was near the lobby & we only occasionally had animals wander into our little section of Sunset savanna.

My fiancé and I had an offer accepted on a AKL contract last week (still waiting on ROFR) but it seems like this would be the way to go? We just need a studio since it is just the two of us, but would very much like to still see animals from time to time!

I was at Jambo May 4-8 in room 5584. It was down at the end of the hall on Zebra Trail outside. Very last room before the Grand Villa on the end. It was a very long walk, so may not be great with kids, but it was a fabulous view! I had animals all the time, I could even see them from the bed! When I checked in I knew it was as far away from the lobby as could be and asked for something closer. Nothing was available that day, but they would try the next day. After being in the room with the great view overnight, I called in the morning and said I would stay there.
If you know you want savannah view at standard point price, I highly recommend it, if you don't mind the walk. It is probably filled later, because people don't want the long walk. And saves the extra points for your next trip

Good luck w/ ROFR!
AKV has so many choices, think of all the years you’ll have to try them all :). First there’s the decision of Kidani or Jambo, both have positives/negatives. W/ Kidani you have bigger villas & in the 1 br.s & up an additional bathroom. You can get a villa on any floor, so if you want more of an eye level w/ a giraffe view Kidani is a better choice. If you have younger children with you the kids splash area at the Kidani pool is great. Of course you can use both pools no matter which building you’re in. The park buses stop at Kidani first both going & returning. Jambo’s common spaces are much grander & there are more food options. The villas at Jambo are on the 5th floor (except for the club villas on the 6th floor) so you look down on the animals. There are so many booking categories - from the low point value villas, up to the only club villas offered in the DVC system. Here’s a map of the AKV villas at Jambo http://www.parkinfo2go.com/dvc-akv/floor5.php
Around half of Jambo’s standard view villas have at least a limited savanna view see the map below, I can’t vouch for it’s accuracy - but it gives a sense of which view category is where. I would not risk booking a standard view at Kidani if I hoped to see animals from my villa - there are only a couple of standard view villas located on the small Pembe savanna at Kidani.
If a couple w/out children I’d be tempted to try for a hard to get value 1 br. at Jambo to save points but enjoy the living room/kitchen, the king size bed, spa tub, washer/dryer in the villa, etc.. they’re on Ostrich & Giraffe trail. The risk w/ value is you’d get a pool or parking lot/shrubbery view.
