AKV Jambo House 1 BR Standard View ?

Hello!

We have never stayed at AKL before. We are booked at Jambo House in a 1 BR standard view 1/27-2/3 using a DVC member's points. The owner mentioned we may be able to request a partial savanna view despite being booked into a standard. Anyone ever have success with this? Should we do online check-in? If so, the dropdown request menu offers the 3 savannas as choices. Does requesting any particular one increase our odds or should I just select one so they know we are interested in a savanna view? Any other tips and advice are welcome too.

Some of the Savanna View rooms were reclassified as Standard View because the view was partially blocked. As far as I'm aware, all of the reclassified rooms face either the Sunset Savanna or the Uzima Savanna. None of them face Arusha (so don't request that!)

The reclassified rooms are probably pretty evenly split between those that face Sunset and those that face Uzima. I haven't stayed in Jambo House for quite a while so I don't know which animals they currently have on Uzima. Sunset is a very large savanna and I know it has giraffes and zebras among many other animals so you could try requesting Sunset Savanna and see if you get lucky!

The majority of Standard View rooms face the pool area putting you closer to the pool, lobby and restaurants. With a partial savanna view room, you might end up all the way out at the end of one of the arms of the horseshoe, quite a long way from the lobby area. Some people (like me) don't mind that but others complain about the long walk to/from the room so it's something else to consider when making a request.

One thing worth mentioning. Not at all directed to the OP, just for general reader consumption.

Since the reclassified standard view rooms are a pretty well-known entity among DVC owners, it seems most everyone requests the "partial Savannah view" with their standard room booking- at least as often as people request "close to lobby."

On my last AKV trip, I witnessed another group checking in that was having a meltdown and frankly harassing the poor CM at the desk, because their standard room wasn't going to have the partial Savannah view.

Don't be that guy.

Requests are exactly what they sound like, and are absolutely not guarantees. If you don't get it, spend more points to get what you want on the next trip.

To the OP: previous posts are exactly correct on what you want to request- since you're renting, you should do the online check-in so you can make the request yourself and not involve the owner. Here's hoping your request is filled!...

I know you said this wasn't directed at me but I promise not to be those people, lol! I totally understand it's just a request. Unfortunately, savanna view wasn't available for all nights of our stay but I'm ecstatic just to be staying there. Thanks for your advice!
