I am going to book a trip for next spring for AKV Concierge. We have always wanted to try it and I was just wondering what are the "extras" you get with the room? I know there is food etc, but what is it specifically.

I guess we really want to know if you get what you pay for? :)

Thanks!

I wish you best of luck in getting your request - there are very very few concierge rooms available.
Every time we have tried to book we have been shot down.
We are going to try for it next year around Thanksgiving - but our 11 month window won't open up till December - so here's hoping that we get what we want!

There are five two bedroom lockoffs on the sixth floor of Jambo House. That's the floor the Concierge Lounge is located and that's why DVC has those conciege level villas. If someone reserves a studio, that leaves four two bedroom lockoffs and a one bedroom.

They are difficult to get at anything less than 11 months out. So next spring is probably just a dream. You can waitlist it, though, and see what happens.

You get daily cleaning, turn down service, access to the lounge for the extra points you pay for those rooms. Three of the two bedroom lockoffs are savanna view (with a somewhat restricted view of the savanna because of the roof overhang) and two are pool view. At least one is handicapped accessible.

You won't want these for the view. The extra services and ability to book the Sunrise Safari are the reason to get these villas.

Agree with this completely. We have 2 nights booked in July for AKV Jambo CL, but we also booked 3 nights AKV Kidani Savannah view. We've stayed CL once before and the Savannah views were pretty marginal - in hindsight, I'd have rather had the pool view on this level. I'm making only one request for our upcoming stay, "NEED BATHTUB." I believe there is one true handicapped unit on the CL, complete with missing island, roll in shower and low cabinet heights - it's definitely designed for someone in a wheelchair (and wouldn't you know this is the unit we got assigned our last stay.) And I think one of the other units is handicapped accessible and has some modifications (but never having stayed in it, I'm not sure exactly what is different.) Both handicapped units have Savannah views.

I bought AKV points just so we could stay CL for a weekend or so each year. We love the CL experience but some might question if the "extras" are really worth the points. I really enjoy a few days of relaxing and pampering and a "respite" from the parks. So it's definitely worth it to me. We're also going to try the Sunrise Safari this time.

OK...I know about the view, but we had excellent animal viewing from our CL studio, so it's possible! I like the extra pampering, the ability to get a cup of coffee in the AM without having to wait to fix it! The Concierge staff helped us with directions to places we wanted to find in FL. DSis and I had a wonderful 4 night stay in April!

We have stayed concierge many times. You do, potentially, sacrifice view, but you are guaranteed a great room location within the hotel. If you don't get many opportunities to stay AKL, the SV is a must! If you visit AKV often, the location and offered amenities of CL are nice. We have 5 late teen/adult kids and they like the unlimited drinks, I love the the cappuccino machine! It is also an advantage to use concierge services for all planning and reservations. Our next trip we are staying a few days SV to guarantee the experience for a guest who has never been, and then CL for the amenities.:thumbsup2

As far as food, it comes from Boma and Jiko. We have always enjoyed the offereings. However, we have heard they have cut-back on quantitiy/offerings. We shall see for ourselves in July if it has indeed changed.

Ok all you nay sayers! :) We got our reservation for a 1 bedroom AKV Concierge for Feb 23, 2012. Our travel buddies did as well....so there!;) :cool1:

Thanks for the help and info!....can't wait!!

Congrats on getting it! Be sure to do the sunrise safari. It was one of the best things we did when we had concierge.

Yipee!!!

I'm really glad you got what you wanted, when you wanted it, for how long you wanted it! :cool1:

I hope we get what we want next year! You give us some hope! :goodvibes

We're checking in for 2 nights in just 11 days :banana::banana: Can you tell I'm excited? This will be our second stay in concierge and then we'll stay 3 more nights in KV. The food is great. They bring out a wide variety throughout certain times of the day. There's a small fridge with beverages (juice, sodas, beer) that stays stocked all the time, plus beer, wine, and amaretto, etc in the evening. Also do turn down service in your room. We save concierge for special trips (like our anniversary this year).

Congrats!
I can highly recommend the Wanyama Safari - finishes with a family style meal at Jiko! Awesome to be on the savannahs with all the animals!

Agree! We liked the Wanyama Safari much more than the Sunrise Safari. The meal at Jiko was awesome (especially if you have good people on the tour with you) and worth the price of the Safari!

We have a studio CL booked from Nov27-Dec 3 this year. I was on the phone at exactly the 11 month window at 9am! I got the last room on the CL for that week at that time. Make sure you're on the phone immediately when the booking window opens :goodvibes.

You need to listen to me more often....! who got you to join DVC...? have I ever let you down....? (hold that thought) ;)
I'm not sure how hard it is normally, but I called as I stood in The Big Man's office and he called minutes later and we both got 1 bedrooms etc. Sometimes it's easier to just pick up the phone. :thumbsup2

We just returned from our second stay there and always enjoy it! Outside our room, we saw more animals than the prior trip, at times at least 4 giraffes... zebras, ostriches, and water buffalo were the other animals. That was mostly in the late afternoons. The breakfast on the Sunrise Safari was nice also.
Breakfast each morning was the same, hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt and juices mostly. Mid-Day -- cookies, chips, gummies, fruit, soft drinks, smoothies. The late afternoon was the time that I noticed some of the cutback on food offerings. No soups and only 1, sometimes two hot appetizers, along with marinated vegetables, olives and humus, beer and wine.
The housekeeping service was especially nice!
We will be staying again on Spring Break 2012.
