Has anyone stayed at AKV Concierge level room recently? I'm looking at a possible stay in a studio. I would like to get your opinion of what the resort room view would be, the food offering and service, at Kilimanjaro Club. It would appear to make sense for us, and well worth the extra points to do so. :thumbsup2

Thanks.

There are 5 2BR lock-offs (thus 10 rooms, 5 1BRs and 5 studios, total possible). Three of the 2BRs face the sunset savanna at the very southern end of that savanna, OK but not the best savanna view, and two of the 2BRs face the pool. You can request savanna view but it is not guaranteed. Rooms are the same size as other Jambo DVC rooms except value point cost rooms which are small. Lounge provides a continental breakfast and more or less finger foods at lunch and evening. You have daily maid service and turn down service as part of the point cost and thus not an extra cost. You have somewhat easier check-in in area for concierge. Concierge CM's are available to make reservations. You can take the sunrise safari, available to concierge guests at any of the resorts, but that costs extra. Whether it is worth the extra points depends on the member's desires. If you want it you usually need the 11 month window and call 11 months out although a few have mentioned actually getting it at 7 months out (while many more have mentioned not being able to get it at 7 months out).

Thanks for the information on the room view possibilities. The food offerings that I've read seem to be standard fair for concierge, with some different African flavors. The reviews on AllEars are very good.

Never knew about the extra maid service. Interesting... Not of interest to me really, but good to know! Then again, since I don't own @ AKV chances are I might not ever have to worry about it! :rotfl:

I thought a couple of the concierge rooms had parking lot view. Is that not the case?

No, it's either the sunset savannah or the pool.

There are some value villas facing the parking lot. Also, some value villas face the pool or the sunset savannah.

We had a pool view in September, not the best pool view either, but we enjoy the little things, like being able to go out and get a cup of coffee right when we wake up! We liked the cheese, wine and little things that were put out around 5, we had them before we went off to MNSSHP. I am sorry they don't offer Bailey's any more. I have complained to AK concierge about that.

We really enjoyed the wildlife discovery excursion and have booked concierge for one night again next October so we can do that again. I enjoyed the Sunrise Safari more than the Wanyama, but I enjoyed this other offering enough to want to do it again.

PS. Oh yes, I love the potato chips that are put out in the afternoon. This is quite a departure from my "normal" I am NOT much of a potato chip eater, but I can't get enough of theirs!!!

Having done Concierge at the CR, it was worth it for us. It looks like we'll try it at AKV. Having done the DDP and just making reservations so far in advance, either on or off the plan, we find it to be too time restrictive. After all these years of visiting WDW, I have found that I like being more flexible, as to where & when we eat, either at WDW or off site. We still do our mainstays at WDW and in and around Orlando (The Winter Park) area.

Thanks for the information. It's been helpful.

What time does the CL close? Is it different for weekends and/or seasons? I hope to stay there next year.:)

From what I've read, I believe it closes at 10:00 pm. Cordials and deserts our available between 8 & 10.

Thank you for this info. We are staying in a 1bedroom Concierge in January and wondered about some of that. We didn't request a room as we have had savannahs before so let someone else have it for a change... but do you know what floor these are normally on?

Just made a reservation this morning for a week in a concierge studio next October. There was only one studio available at 9am, right at 11 months.

Tempered excitement, because we may try to swap out at 7 months for the Grand Californian.

I've read that the food offerings have been scaled back recently. Anyone familiar with that? Do they still serve beer/wine?

I just booked a concierge studio for next October as well. When MS was finished with the reservation, he spent some time going over the amenities with me. I do remember him saying there was beer, but I don't remember anything about wine. We aren't drinkers though so it doesn't matter to us. So I may have just missed the information.

Swapping out coasts, not just a different resort @ WDW? Interesting. Good luck & I hope you enjoy DL if you do change to my CA home!

Indeed! We've been wanting to visit DL and stay at the Grand Californian for a long time. October is perfect for us, as we're huge Nightmare Before Christmas fans, and are excited to visit the themed Haunted Mansion at DL. But we're also very happy to stay concierge at our favorite resort in WDW, to try the breakfast safari and all that - it's a win/win.

We will be there too. We have a concierge studio from Oct. 3-9 and are waitlisted for Oct. 2. This will be a 10th anniversary trip for us. I think the CM we got was new because he kept putting me on hold to get answers to what I thought were very simple questions. He didn't explain anything about concierge at all. The day before the CM was wonderful and spent a long time talking to me about the resort. But since I had to waitlist for Oct. 2 I had to call back to get the rest of my days and didn't get the same CM.

We did concierge in July and felt with was well worth the extra points. We were in a Stuido with a pool view. For the two of us the stuido is plenty big enough.

Odds are we'll be doing concierge again in the future if that tell you anything
