Just wondering if anyone has pictures of the views from the concierge level DVC rooms at AKV. We'll be staying there next May, and I understand the views aren't exactly the best. If I wanted more light in my room, which view should I request?
TIA

The rooms are the same as the non-concierge rooms, except in the studios the bed is by the balcony and the sofa is inside (opposite of the non-concierge rooms). I like this layout better, actually - it makes the room feel bigger.

As for light, the roof overhangs part of the balcony opening no matter what view you get. AKV rooms tend to be dark, unfortunately. You might want to bring a few higher-watt bulbs :confused3 but I don't believe any view will be more or less light than any other view there.

There are non-Concierge studios with this furniture arrangement also and some Concierge studios have the traditional arrangement. I'm guessing here but I think what determines the arrangement of the bed and sofa is the location of the connecting door to the 1BR. If the connecting door is in the entryway, the bed is next to the bathroom wall and the sofa is next to the sliding door. If the connecting door is in the living area, then the bed is near the sliding door. It may have something to do with the clearance needed to swing open the connecting door, or traffic flow through the doorway. The bed is normally next to the bathroom wall so maybe the problem only occurs when the connecting door is in the living area and next to the bathroom. In that case they probably put the furniture along the opposite wall where the bed would be in the way of the hallway from the front door, as in rooms 6201 and 6206?

Assuming this floor plan is accurate (and some of them are not!), two Concierge studios have the connecting door in the entryway (6209, 6401) and the other three have the door in the living area (6201, 6206, 6406). We stayed in 6209 and it had the traditional layout: sofa next to the slider, bed next to the bathroom wall.

Which of these rooms are savanna view and which are pool view?

Lisa, we've stayed in 6201/6202 and the studio is configured as you surmised....the connecting door is in the living area and the bed is next to the windows in the studio....can't remember if the doors were sliders in the studio or a door that opened. However, the blueprint is incorrect for the bathroom portion of 6202. No tub in that villaa but instead a walkin/rollin shower where the water closet is drawn. The water closet is actually located where the tub is drawn. 6202 didn't have sliders but instead a door that opened and it was ramped.

We've also had 6405 twice and I can confirm that the connecting door is in the living area. Don't know about the placement of the bed in 6406 though.

Thanks for the information. I'll see if I can find a floorplan for an HA room with roll-in shower and use a bit of cutting and pasting to make this plan match what they actually constructed.

Does anyone know how many HA Concierge rooms there are in AKV? We've just decided to add my MIL to our vacation in Sept and she's wheelchair bound. We'll be in a 1-br and I'm worried about problems calling so close to our visit (we just decided this week that she was going) Sounds like a good chance we'll be in 6202 based on above posts??

Both 6202 and 6205 are HA 1BRs. As BCV23 said, 6202 has a roll-in shower instead of a whirlpool tub. Room 6205 does have a tub so I assume it has grab bars. The easiest way to spot the HA rooms in the floor plans is to look at the door to the balcony. In the HA rooms, the balcony door opens out, non-HA rooms have a slider. The odd thing is, the two HA Concierge rooms are both 1BRs. None of the five Concierge studios is HA as far as I know. I'm surprised they didn't provide one of each.

Have you talked with MS about needing a HA room for your stay? I think there is a special number you have to call to be sure you get the type of HA room that you need. MS can give you the details or perhaps someone will post the info here.

I've tried to correct the floor plan for the bathroom in 6202. Does this look right?

FYI, the handicapped accessible CL rooms are on the savanna view side of concierge.

Last December we stayed in one of the concierge savannah view 1BR villas. We had villa #6208. Here are some pictures of the savannah view:

We had heard negative things about the savannah views from these rooms, but we saw lots of different animals throughout our stay:

Thanks for the quick response! I plan on calling them tomorrow, DH is all concerned now because basically all MIL needs is a seat in the shower... we went back and looked at pictures of the AKL DVC rooms and it looks like there is a seat in the shower of the regular rooms already? is this just Kidani, or is this for the converted Jambo House rooms too... or am I crazy and that's what's going on in the Handicapped rooms only? I honestly can't remember and DH has me all confused :scared:

Nope - no seat in the shower - in fact, no separate shower at Jambo. All of the rooms have a combo whirlpool tub and shower. You should be able to get a portable shower bench from the hotel but first you need to decide if your DMIL can get over the hugest tub surround in the world! Ok, maybe exagerating but it's a big step to get into the tub. More than likely if there's any leg mobility issues you would at least need a transfer shower bench. I'd try and get the HA room if you think that would be a problem.

Also, the toilet height seemed extra short in the non HA room. We had to request a riser which they retrieved from Kidani.

OP - here's pics of the view from 6402 1BR which is a pool view. I had no complaints at all about the view. I loved the long balcony, I could see everything I wanted to of the pool and we were sheltered from the sweltering sun by the overhangs! :thumbsup2 I wasn't certain what to expect b/c people kept saying the views were not that good and while that may be true I loved the seclusion that you got being up there, and like I mentioned - I could see everything that I wanted to.

These were shot with a wide-angle lens to include the balcony, the overhang and the view so it's a bit distorted as to how enclosed the balcony is:

And here's the view at night. These were shot with focal length that shows much more how the view would appear to the human eye standing at the balcony rail:

And slightly zoomed:

And for sailors_wife...here's a picture of the tub/shower in a non-HA concierge room. The lip of the tub was at least knee height for me and as you can see there isn't a bench.

LisaS, I think you've got it. :goodvibes That's just what I remember.

KAT4DISNEY, great pictures. I love those overhangs as well. They just add to the the cozy, treehouse feel for me. 6405 has two balconies rather than one long one.

sailors_wife, I agree with KAT4DISNEY, the tub could be a real hurdle for your MIL. Even a transfer bench would be very high for most people I think. Perhaps if you talk to MS, the CM can have special needs help with advice. 6202 with the rollin shower might work best for her but there is no tub in that villa as you can see from Lisa's plan.

We stayed in room 6201, a studio savannah room. While the view was nothing to write home about, everything ELSE associated with concierge was. And, FWIW, after we went on the sunset and sunrise safaris, seeing the animals from the room was really NOT as big of a deal as if we had NOT been on those two amazing experiences! The other thing? We spent a LOT of our time hanging out in the Concierge lobby- they were always putting out different foods and drinks, and it was so spacious and relaxing there-

Here are some pics of our view- we were there during the crazy rain of May, hope your view will be much brighter than ours!!!

Podsnel and Kat4disney- THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THOSE PICS (and video) !! That is just what I was looking for. I don't think those views are all that awful- I'll be ok in those rooms .

I can't believe that rain!! But- it looks like you guys were prepared for it (well...... maybe not so much in the shoe department! LOL!!!) But, at least it sounds liek you were having a great time!!

OK, let me try to link these photos again (sorry about that!):
