When walking if a room is available at say 11 months and five days .... Will that work or does riom have to be available at exactly 11 months? Problem is that the first day or two is never available.
The concept of walking when you are doing it 11 months out is that if you lock in a room before 11 months out and then walk by adding dates before the term that you already have runs out, you will be able to continuously walk for as long as you want until you have what you want. But you need to find that first open day to begin walking which can be difficult for clun level studios. For example, here is what some are doing now if they want one of the five club level studios in October and we assume they have enough points only for five nights during magic season when a walk begins:
1. They will start watching club level availability in mid-August at exactly 11 months out for mid-July the next year. Much of July and first half of Aug are low
DVC demand times (even lower than Sep) during which a club level studio might randomly become available at exactly 11 month out.
2. Assume the walker finds that he can book July 20-26 that way. He does so, and in doing so locks in one room for the period. No one else can get his room for the nights of July 20 through July 25 if booking 11 months out from any day of that time, e.g., if someone else tries to book 7 nights 11 months out from July 25, that someone will not be able to lock up the walker's room for the night of July 25. That also means no one else can possibly book the walker's room for nights after July 25 until they are 11 months out from July 26.
3. On Aug 25, the walker calls and drops the nights of July 20 to July 24 and adds the nights of July 26 through July 29 making his reservation now July 25-July 30, and again locking out anyone else from booking his room for any time on or after July 29. He repeats that process on Aug 29 making his new dates July 29 to Aug 3. He repeats that practice until eventually he has the dates he wants in October.
Some actually just keep calling daily to drop a night and then add a night because that minimizes the possbility of losing the room because one could be designated to be out of service for some time during that July to Oct period. The walker has a risk of having his walk cut-off in that situation, i.e., if only four of the five club level studios mare designated to be open in mid-Sep, the walker could lose to others booking the other four rooms for that period and his walk could be cut off when trying to book those nights in Sep.
All of this might sound like far too much effort to book a club level room and that is probably correct for most members.
