We stayed at the AKL, Savanah view & it was truly am amazing expirience, we loved every mnute of it. Not only did we love it, but the bugs loved me! I looked like I had quite a rash by the end of our stay. Has anyone else heard about this happening to someone else? What to do to prevent it? I would like to buy an add on at AKV, but the whole rash thing has me concerned.

Depending on when your stay was, you may have been suffering from the "Disney rash" and not something that was just because of where you were staying.

I never heard of the "Disney rash" What is that? From the beds or allergies? I never had a rash before when we have stayed....this is making me worried too.

We stayed @ AKL in 2002 (I think). DH & I would sit on the balcony at night after the kids went to bed. I had itchy bites all over my legs. They weren't mosquitos, I don't know what they were. So to answer your question, yes.

I've never had the "Disney Rash", but have known quite a few people who have had it. It is a rash of what looks like small bites on the lower part of the legs. Some folks look completely red from the knees down with it.

Eeks! I had not thought of this possibility for AKL/AKV. What types of bug/stuff causes this? Is this more prevalent at AKL (as I've never heard of it before and never experienced anything like that in our many trips over the years).

It is called bed bugs and they seem to be DVC specific. Never had them at the deluxe resorts at WDW or the mods.

Could be the lack of daily housekeeping??????

ETA: I'm joking...... I've nevr been bitten by bed bugs at DVC or any other hotel for that matter. Figured it might stir it up a little.

Apparently they are not DVC specific since two posters here are referring to having that experience at AKL. And I don't recall anyone having posted about the same thing at a DVC resort -- did I miss those posts over the years?

We are bringing Clorox Anywhere Spray and dousing every surface possible, also you need to get behind the head boards those, actually come off the walls and they live in there more than the mattresses. Check your mattresses for what look like burnt marks those are bed bug signs as well. Bedbugs sense heat and warm blood. I would and will google all info on bed bugs prior to my trip.

This was most certainly NOT bed bugs. My husband didn't get it, neither did my children & they were in & out of our bed too.

DH & I spent every evening, after putting the kids to bed, outside sipping wine & looking at the animals. I definitly was bitten while outside at AKL.

Have I totally missed something? I've never heard of anyone having bedbugs at a Disney property.

They are a little bug mostly in florida. My friend got bit up pretty good at POR near the alligator bayou private pool. Took her to the celebration hospital and thats what the doctor told us. He said plenty of tourist have it happen to them. Not serious but itching is terrible..............................

ABSOLUTELY NOT BED BUGS!!!!!!!!! THE BITES I HAD WERE NOT BED BUGS, I GOT THEM WHILE SITTING OUT ON THE BALCONY, NOT FROM THE BED. I COULD FEEL THEM BITING AND SPRAYED "OFF" - WHICH DID HELP. I AM USING ALL CAPS BECAUSE I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT THESE ARE NOT BED BUGS! :)

DH, DS, DD Did not get them, only me because I'm so sweet.:cutie:

I don't know... seems if it were bed bugs they would be biting above the knees. Seems more on the line of no-see-ums.

I'll bet they're gnats (which, like Disdaydreamer said, are aka "no-see-ems". We "saw them" quite a bit when staying at AKL, too. They're pretty common up here in the NE....not sure about Florida, though we've seen them at AKL and the CR.

And like all gnats, they seem to have an affinity for certain people (my wife) and leave others alone (me). Maybe it's the deoderant she uses or "beauty products"...I don't know. We've found they dislike the smell of Avon's "Skin so soft", as well as most of the "non-deet" repellants.

When outside, bugs happen. I think AKL gets a "bad rap" because people spend SOOO much time, proportionately, on their balconies.

Deleting my comments--- whatever.

I am voting on No See Ums and they aren't unique to AK just more prevelant at certain seasons. (They love me, hate my boyfriend)

Having stayed at LOTS of Disney resorts and TONS of other hotels Bed bugs are NOT as common as folks on here seem to believe. Considering some of the dumps I have stayed in, if I have never had them don't waste a lot of time panicing over this!

I edited my post. It was a joke. I thought the disclaimer was on there to begin with. When I saw the flames and quotes I looked and low and behold I didn't put it in there. My bad.

Sorry, I've never had bed bugs at WDW or anywhere else for that matter.

Animals draw bugs, bitting bugs of all kind. Your body heat then draws them to you.
