We have stayed at AKL and AKV many times, and have always stayed in a Savanna room. I have never been disappointed with our view. Sometimes it is better than others, but, that happens. Even when there was construction, and other people got rebates because of construction, we weren't disappointed with the animals we saw at our room. Last spring, during construction, we saw a family of zebras who played outside of our window at Jambo house. We watched them every day, and I have video of the babies (two) playing in the water outside our room. I know that my brother was given a rebate during our stay (which was interesting, because he stayed on my points in a room across the hall from mine). I also learned by accident that the room next door also got rebate of about $300; I am not sure how Disney determined who got a rebate, but, I guess we are easy to please. (We were in a 1 bedroom unit, and the room next door was a studio that would have connected to ours. Disney left their bill on our door by mistake, and I opened it. I guess they were more vocal and displeased about the construction. We were out of our room from about 8am until 11pm each day, and construction didn't bother us). Our only problem with a savanna room is that we have trouble leaving the room to do things during the day, the animals are such enjoyable entertainment.
This past June, we stayed in a studio at Kidani. I loved it. It suited what we like to do perfectly. It was Savanna view. It was close to the end by the pool and exercise room, so my routine was to get up early to exercise, then, come back to watch animals while everyone was showering and eating breakfast. We eat breakfast in the room, which is coffee, English muffins and fruit that we pick up at a grocery. We have no need for CS at the resort, because we eat other meals out at the parks. The exercise room is accessible 24hrs with a room key, which is great. I remember that the exercise room at Jambo used to close about 8pm, which meant we couldn't exercise in the evening. I am not sure is that has changed.
I would be OK with a standard view room, but, I prefer the savanna room, which is worth the points for what we like to do at the resort. I can't say that I prefer the room lay out at Jambo or Kidani better. Both are very nice, and very adequate for our needs.
