We will not be visiting this year but have banked points for a stay in Oct/Nov 2010.

AKV is our home resort but have never been there. Has anyone had the opportunity to stay at any of the new villas? Any feedback would be great - accommodation (we're aiming for a Studio or 1 bed with Savannah view) dining, shops, transport etc etc.

Just grateful for any information and........if you have any photos.....even better :goodvibes

Thanks

We stayed there for 4 nights a week after it opened, 1 bedroom savanah view, it was lovely & very spacious (2 bathrooms). The only 'down side' was the room was as far as you could go from reception on the other side of the savanah so it literaly took for ever to reach the room, it made you double check that you didn't forget anything when leaving the room. We ate at the new restaurant which was very good even with the staff still getting training. The pool is also very nice alot quieter than the main pool in the 'older resort'.

Hi Callum, is it the new Kidani villas at AKV that you are thinking about staying in? We didn't stay at Kidani(we were in Jambo House) but did go over to there to have a look and use the pool a couple of times.

We were in a 1 bedroom in Jambo and it was pretty spectacular. Stunning decor and plenty of room for our family of 5. I'm sure the Kidani villa's are slightly bigger than those in Jambo and also have a separate bath & shower in the bathroom so I doubt you'll be disappointed with the rooms.

The Kidani pool area is fantastic, particularly if you have children, but dining is limited in that there is only a full service & somewhat expensive restaurant available. The pool bar sells a small number of snacks as does the shop on site but must of your dining options at the resort are in Jambo house. That said, you can walk over to Jambo from Kidani in 10/15 mins, weather permitting. If you have a car, it takes even less time & AKV is also only a 5 min drive to Highway 192 & it's multitude of restaurants/supermarkets etc.

Are you going to hire a car? If so, some of the parking is underneath the actual building at Kidani so it's very easy to park close to your room & take one of many elevators up. The only slight complaint we had about AKV was the Disney bus service. We didn't have much luck with the buses either to or from the parks but I suppose it's all down to timing. For every family like us that seemed to wait ages for every bus, another family probably just strolled up when the bus arrived and has a totally different opinion of the service. With the exception of the Downtown Disney bus, all the buses pick up and drop off at Kidani first which is a real benefit if you happen to be staying there.

Overall, Kidani is really nice inside but much, much smaller than Jambo. We booked concierge level(brill, you should consider it) so had to stay in Jambo and I've no doubts that if I hadn't got concierge, I would have booked Kidani as it was newer. I'm glad I didn't though because having seen both, we all much preferred the hustle and bustle of Jambo and the fact that everything is bigger & much closer to hand than it is in Kidani. The maintenance of the resort is excellent so one part being newer than the other wasn't obvious at all. That's just opinion though and I'm sure plenty prefer Kidani for the opposite reason.

My PC in the house is broken & I can't upload pictures at my work so can't help you with photo's unfortunately.:sad1: Proably not a bad thing because I have 100's of them and would have bored you to tears:rotfl:

I loved AKV on what was our first visit after buying into DVC so I'm sure wherever you stay within the resort, you'll have a great time.:)

Click on the link in my signature. I've posted a trip report with photos from AKV club level. We stayed in a studio at Jambo House.

Thanks Everyone

Your input is really appreciated.

Although we haven't even entered our "planning" stage, all your little bits of info have given us a great feel for AKV -whether it be Kidani or Jambo as both sound gorgeous.

We are off on holiday in a couple of weeks time (as I already mentioned, not to WDW or even Florida this year!) and as soon as we return we'll start firming up our dates for next year. The 11 month window will be written in my diary in HUGE letters ;)

Thanks again

We are in a value studio in Jambo at the moment, I was worried the value would be really small but its not at all, its a good size and very nice room. The 192 is very near by, (end of road) so there are lots of dining places nearby if you have a car. The bus service has been fantastic, the standard wait is usually only 5 mins and plenty of room. The only thing I don't like about the resort is the look of the buildings from the outside, I think it looks like a corrugated tin shed! It just doesn't compare to the beach club last year.

"Corrugated tin shed" :rotfl:

Did you use any of the on-site dining places? Just wondering about Disney's take on Asian/Curry type meals.

I know the easy access from AK to the 192 and there's certainly a lot more variety of restaurants on offer there. A good dining alternative.
