AKV and BWV accessible studios; layout?

Maybe somebody on here can help me out? I'm not getting much wiser yet. What is the lay out of the studios at AKV and BWV?

My mom just started to read up on things (you know the type of people; first time going to WDW, not getting the hype -yet!-, and thinking it is very early right now to start looking into our trip for december) and she and my dad are really fond of both AKV and BWV. They're thinking of upgrading us (wont hear me complaining ), but the question rises about the layout of the room.

- how easy do you find it to navigate around these studios with your pc?

- how easy is it to navigate the kitchen area with a pc and/or manual chair (will have the manual with me as back up, but not looking forward to using it on carpeting). Once we get a kitchen, I'm sure I'll want to do some quick dinner fixing myself!

- what are the sleeping arrangements like? Is it king, queen, daybed, pull out sofa, or which combination of the above? My parents really really appreciate their sleeping space to be roomy. Guess it gives them the rest they need to keep loving each other. I know with our current reservation this is taken care of, so if there would be a 'less' situation with upgrading I doubt it they'ld want to upgrade.

- I read some reports of peops saying the BWV are pretty far away from the main area. What was your experience with this?? If possible I would appreciate it greatly if one could translate the distance to miles/meters/how many rooms they had to pass.

First of all, the studios don't have a kitchen but do have a microwave, mini-fridge, toaster and coffee maker. They do have the regular layout of a non-accessible studio which means one queen bed and the sofa-sleeper. Because the bathroom area is larger to accomodate a w/c and roll in shower there will be less space in the room, meaning the queen bed is usually closer to the wall. Since there's the pull-out sofa there's plenty of room to maneuver inside the room itself with a w/c or ECV. There's also a little entry hall with a place to keep and charge the ECV if you're able to park it and walk around in your room.---Kathy

We have never stayed at BWV. However, AKV had room for my daughters chair. She mostly parks it and is independent in the room. I would not have wanted her trying to maneuver that chair in the studio.... it didn't have the space.

As for a "kitchen"... umm no. You need a 1 bedroom for a kitchen (then you have a ton of space). Its just a tiny microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker and a toaster.

The studios have a queen bed and a sleeper sofa. If you are talking about a 1 bedroom then you have a full kitchen, living room with sleeper sofa and a bedroom wtih a king bed.

My mistake, Beth and Kathy. I said kitchen, but ofcourse ment kitchenette. The very basic appliances that DCV offers in a studio would be enough for us. More would start to look like home and work, don't want that.

Beth, what was it that had you saying 'not enough space for DD to comfortably get around'?

So far it sounds like something that I would try (and think I'll be comfortable in) when travelling alone, but not for this particular trip with 3 adults in one room. And a powerchair, manual chair and another whole bunch of stuff I drag along. More or less the same feeling I got from looking at the floorplan for a non handicapped studio.

I know I've always had plenty of room to maneuver in my power chair in any DVC studio, including the ones at OKW that have two queen beds. I also have lots of equipment with me and a service dog and all her "stuff". With three adults I'd definitely look into getting a one bedroom villa. There's just so much more space and privacy.---Kathy

I've taken 3 adults to a SSR studio (which has pretty much the same layout as BWV). We also had my powerchair and my dad's ECV in the room.

BWV and AKV studios come with a queen bed and sofa bed. When the sofa is closed up, there's enough room to maneuver. When it's open, it blocked entry to the balcony doors and squished everything against the opposing wall. We had to be creative where we put my dad's scooter and the coffee table. My chair was parked between the bed and sofabed and had a clear path to the kitchenette, bathroom and exit/entry. The bathroom (which was a roll-in shower) had a sliding pocket door instead of wide swinging door. Was a huge space saver.

3 adults can manage in a studio room, but it does get cozy.

As to location, BWV HA rooms, especially the fully accessible ones, are mostly near the elevators. That is just off the main lobby. If you were to stay in the farthest out regular room (Standard View), you'd be walking a max of .2 mile. It's a shorter distance than from the parking lot to the door.
