AKV 60 Days Out In July-Aug?

I have some points in Holding. Just was asked to rent points by a friend who wants to go to AKV, studio value/standard July 31-Aug. 5. If I wait until 60 days out, i.e. May 31, what are the chances of getting a studio for that busy time? It would save them some money, but I'm not sure it's worth the chance. Thanks!

In the past I've read here that the summers aren't necessarily a hard time to get DVC villas, but I agree that the value is most likely out. I think you'll have more luck with the standard. There's still a long time until you can book, I think your friends should book something they would be happy with that is refundable if they cancel.

I don't think it's the renters that want the OP to wait, it's the OP wondering if they could book it using the holding points (and that's why they'd have to wait until the end of May to book.) I agree that value is most likely not an option, but standard I'd guess has a pretty good chance of being available.

You could book it now using regular points (as long as you have them) and then at the 60 day mark see if there is availability and then make a reservation using the holding points and cancel the original reservation. (as long as you're not past your banking window if you would need to bank those regular points. )

A ha! That's why I come here for some expert input! The points I could use would be borrowed. If I cancel at 30 days out, do they return to the original use year (in this case 2011)?

No, unfortunately, if you borrow them, they stay in the UY they were borrowed into.

I still think your friends show book something they can live with that could be cancelled and have their deposit refunded in case you can't help them.

I don't have experience with OKW...how do those points compare? If they're willing to take AKV standard, or OKW studio, I THINK you'll get one or the other at the first try.

OK, I called DVC. My problem is, I only have points I can borrow from 2011 (besides the holding). My UY is Oct. So I can't borrow the points for a July 2010 reservation.

Thanks. Yes, they're willing to stay elsewhere from AKV, so it looks like we'll be taking the chance on availability.

If you can't find availability for them as long as they are not planning on going over the 4th of July they should be able to book something else (may be more expensive than renting from you) but Disney will still have cash availability.

They're working on a budget, so I don't think rack rate is an option.

I had points in holding due to the snow storm and I am leaving on May 1st. I wanted a Kidani Studio SV for my stay but of course nothing available. My original ressie was SSR but I have Jambo and Kidani on waitlist. I have been calling almost everyday and changing my ressie. So far I have 1 night at Jambo, 3 at Kidani and 2 at Wilderness Lodge. I don't mind hopping but you never know, it may come through.

Talk with your friend and explain the situation and then throw scenarios at them and see what you can agree upon.

If you are willing to pick up the reservation for the standard a day or 2 at a time you should not have a problem. If you have to get it all in one piece it may be a little harder
