Looking at a 2 bedroom for july and just wondering if anyone out there thinks 12 points is worth the sav view. the value view is 28 points and sav view 40 points per night. planning on staying 4 nights so thats 48 total points difference. so what do you guys think?

Yes, The view is the entire reason I bought some points. I think staying at AKV or AKL and not having a vew would be depressing. I am fine with a parking lot view anyplace else on property however!

Yup. The best thing about the AKV is the view of the Savannah from your balcony. It's the one resort where I wouldn't go for the value option.

I think it depends if you're a frequent visitor or not. I know the next time we're doing value or standard view to save on some points. If we don't like it then we'll know for the next trip!

Bit like comparing apples and oranges this one, Value room is smaller than a savannah, a fair comparison would be standard Vs savannah view

I have yet to stay at AKL but I plan to at this time next year (11 month window, here i come!!) and I most certainly plan on having the savannah view! I feel like one of the reasons to stay at AKL is to have those animals within eye sight on your balcony!!

Just note that you can get savanna view with a value point room (about 1/3 of the values are savanna view) but it is not guaranteed.

Also note that there are only a small number of value rooms in total (all are in Jambo, none will be in Kidani). If you are thinking July, you better call now to get a value room

Also, as already noted, the values are smaller rooms -- I have been in them and the sense you have is that they are much, much smaller.

the value view is 28 points and sav view 40 points per night.
There is no "value view" category, it's just "value" because it's the size of the room that differentiates the Value rooms from other rooms in Jambo House, not the view. Value rooms are about 3 feet shorter than the non-Value rooms. A Value room can have a view of the Sunset Savanna, the pool area (in some rooms the view is of a roof and some trees with the pool barely visible) or the parking lot. The occupancy is lower for a Value 1BR/2BR because there is a regular chair instead of a sleeper chair in the living room.

I think the room size difference alone is worth the 12 points, and the savanna is what AKV is all about. I'd definitely go for the SV room.

I stayed in a value studio and a savanna studio back in jan. My value was a pool view.
My observations, I would not do a savanna view again, because AKL has so many wonderful viewing areas, it is not worth the extra points to me. Now, maybe if I brought a relative along i wanted to impress I would do that view again.
I greatly enjoyed the pool view(tho i think my son was more amused by all the sunbathers who thought no one could see them sunbathing sans tops)

I would be crushed if i had gotten a parking lot view. Had that once at BWV, won't willingly do that again!!

I equate each point I use to about a 10 dollar value. It is between 3 and 4 points a day to upgrade to a Savannah View, so lets say 30 or 40 bucks more to wake up with the animals and have coffee, or go to bed and see the animals. Also it was day time entertainment for my kids. To me.... It was totally worth the extra money per day for the experience. For you...maybe not so much..... Lets face it though..... your at Disney so you really can't be too wrong with any choice you make.

I tend to book value villas over weekends when I feel low on points, but I've also gone with savannah view on weekends because I definitely think the view is worth it. As far as the view from the 2 value villas go, I've had a savannah and a pool view. I have my next value room booked for a Saturday in May.

I agree with you Pickles. While I would not book a value room (I need the space) I certainly will book standard views in the future. I am not impressed with the savanna view. You can see chain link fence from most rooms (due to the evacuation requirements) It is supposed to look like an African Savanna out there but really looks like a San Diego Zoo enclosure to me. However I love the rest of the resort. I think the public areas are spectacular. My wife insisted on a Savanna view for her parents first stay with us, but after that, we will be in a standard Kidani view. Incidently, the Jambo Standard view is excellent. See the photo from our April trip below. In many hotels on property, this would be considered a preferred view...

The only reason I considered DVC was because of AKV. I purchased enough points so I can have a Savannah view villa.

I have to agree pickles. Some people really love having the animals right outside their window. If staying standard gets us a couple extra days at WDW we will gladly stay in a standard view room. Like you said there are plenty of places where you can view the animals. :thumbsup2

We just recently returned from our trip and I splurged on a Sav. view. The minute we opened up the door to our room, my son was in awe of all the animals outside of our balcony! He is 14 years old and I thought he would enjoy the AKV, but I never dreamed he would love it as much as he did! That place is awesome and we can't wait to go back! I highly recommend the savanah view!

This info comes from the AKV FAQs page on the public DVC website. Where there is a range listed (710-807 sq ft for 1BR villas, for example) the smaller number refers to the Jambo House rooms, the larger number is for the Kidani Village rooms, except for the Grand Villas where the Jambo GVs are larger than those in Kidani.

What size are the rooms?

The room sizes vary based on location. The approximate room sizes are as follows:

Studios = 366 square feet (Value = 316 square feet)
One-Bedrooms = 710-807 square feet (Value = 629 square feet)
Two-Bedrooms = 1,075-1,173 square feet (Value = 945 square feet)
Grand Villas = 2,201-2,349 square feet
