I got the AKL for Christmas at the AP rate. For all those that think it's booked try it. The CM told me they had plenty of rooms all over left. Anyway, I was wondering what is not to be missed at this resort. I have been wanting to stay there for a long time, but had been afraid becuase it was so far from everything. But for Christmas, I couldn't think of another place I'd rather be.

I booked a Savannah view room. Any good rooms to recommend, also what is there to do around Christmas?

Sm4987, I hope you like the resort (I love it there). As to what not to miss, make sure you hang out in the public animal-viewing areas and chat with the Cast Members. And make sure you dine in either Jiko's or Boma's (preferably, both). And don't forget to order Room Service and enjoy a meal on your balcony as you view the animals.

Take the culinary tour of Jiko and Boma and ask the front desk for the hidden Mickey search... :)

For savannah view rooms, we like Zebra Trail, 3rd floor. Both times we have been on that trail about halfway down the hallway near the elevator. We have seen lots of animals right outside our room. Boma is definately worth a trip and a tour of the resort is nice to do too. It is interesting to see the other savannahs. Have fun!

Spend a little time enjoying the lobby. There are alot of wonderful interesting exhibits and artifacts. I just love the smell of AKL's lobby. And my family loved the zero entry pool. The gift shop is pretty cool too! :) There are many little details of AKL that really make AKL a deluxe resort keep your eyes open and enjoy.

Thanks for the replies. I thought there would be more because so many people love the resort. I will try not to miss anything. I keep wondering if I like it for Christmas, will I go back this summer!!

For me, just walking into the lobby is not to be missed.
I love everything there...

I forgot to ask, how is the transportation to the parks and DTD? Is there usually a long wait? I don't care about the drive.

Our favorite thing was sitting in the rocking chairs around the fire at night and relaxing after walking around the parks all day.:)

Have fun!!:rotfl:

We just checked out of AKL yesterday (sigh) and the Christmas decorations are just stunning. It was our first time at that resort and it definitely lived up to its reputation. We were upgraded to a pool view room in honor of our first anniversary (and this was when we checked in at 11 pm on Thursday!). The public viewing areas were more than sufficient to get in our animal fix. It's just a fascinating place to be. Transportation was fine - no problems whatsoever. Enjoy!

Transportation is generally better than many deluxe resorts because you do not share your busses with any other resort so it is direct resort to park. Of course if you are heading to say MGM and just miss the MGM bus, you will wait 10-20 minutes (depending on time of day/schedule to get the next bus).

Make sure you see the Gingerbread/Chocolate African Village and Mask at Boma for the holidays - it's amazing!
