Is it pretty common practice to get upgraded from a standard view to a savannah view room? I know it's not guaranteed, but, is it something I would need to ask at checkin, or would they just automatically do it?

I would definately work it into your check in! It never hurts to ask. And the worst that would ahppen is they would say NO!

My advice is that if you want a savannah view, pay for a savannah view. I have heard stories of people getting upgraded at n/c, have heard many people being turned down and also heard of people being upgraded at check in but they had to pay for it. It also depends on what time of year you go. Hey, it never hurts to ask!!! I just really don't like taking the chance so we pay for it.

Don't count on it. Further, it seems that the people being upgraded lately are getting it WITHOUT asking. It seems to me the request is a big negative (if anyone has asked and been upgraded recently please let us know). Also, I think many of the recent upgrades are from std. to pool view...Which, IMO, isn't worth asking for.

I'd try to have a nice conversation with the CM at check-in and if the chance arises perhaps you could say something, but I think a request that was obviously planned from the start is doomed to failure.

The only guarantee for a Savannah room is to pay for it.

We paid for a standard view at AKL and upon check in I was going to kindly inquire if there were any upgrades but I decided not to, I thought I will just take what I paid for, any hooooo, I was upgrade to the main savannah view!! How nice was that, it totally made the stay there great!
