quick question...

we're staying at AKL this august, via virgin holidays, and have standard views booked. if theyre available, would we be able to upgrade to pool view once we're there, and does anyone know approximately how much this would cost for 2 weeks?

also, does anyone know where the disabled rooms are located?

many thanks

kayleigh

There are disabled rooms on all floors at AKL - not sure where they on each floor though.

The difference in rack rate between a standard view room and a pool view room is something like $5 to $15 depending on season.
Te most expensive rooms are savannah view rooms, these are around $65 more per night depending on season.

We have stayed in a savannah view room and it is nice to sit out on your balacony and what the animals.

In 2004 we stayed 16 nights, had a fantastic room overlooking the Uzima Savanna and we had just paid the standard rate. 2006 we went back for 21 nights and we were first offered room 5007 a tiny dingy room overlooking the car park, I went straight back to front desk and complained that we were here for 3 weeks not 3 days and the room was not acceptable. The lady offered us room 4075 saying that it overlooked a Savanna, I knew it was in the pool area, a manageress eventually moved us to room 2269 overlooking Sunset Savanna - mainly buildings and a poor view of Sunset Savanna.

As you see from the above it is very much pot luck on room allocation if you have only paid the standard rate. My recommendation is that you should phone the hotel direct and enquire about upgrading now and make sure that you are away from the building area.

if i chose to upgrade now, who would we pay it to? akl or would it have to go via virgin? sorry - first holiday handling all the booking myself

Wait until you are there, if you paid now you would be paying Virgin Holidays and that is a big jump in price I believe, because AKL wouldnt have the full details I suspect from Virgin yet.

Do a dummy booking online for exactly what you have but pool view on virgin holidays and this will show you what you would have to pay now - definitely worth waiting until you are there - plus you might get an upgrade without having to pay for it:thumbsup2
