Hi! Any tips on staying at AKL (Savanna view) with mobility issues? I keep reading conflicting info on what floor the lobby is in. I thought it would be easier to be on the 3rd floor if that's the same floor as the lobby. My mother is traveling with us and has an ECV, but figured it would be easier if she didn't have to use elevators. Not sure what to request on my online check in ( Ground level, Upper level or lower level). Thank you!

We stayed at AKL in January with my daughter who has some mobility issues (uses a manual wheelchair at WDW). We did not have any issues at all. The hallways and public areas were definitely wide enough and we never had any issues with the elevators.

If you are staying at the Jambo House, the lobby is on the 3rd floor, so if you don't want to do elevators much that would be the best to request. That said, the restaurants, pool, arcade, etc are down on the first floor, so you would have to take the elevators down to those areas.

But I hope you have a great time wherever your room ends up being.

Would your mother prefer not to use the elevator or possibly be far from the lobby on the same floor? My only concern is that she may be on the lobby floor but far out.

not much on the lobby floor except. well.. the lobby. all the good stuff( shopping, food) is below.

HUGE/WIDE hallways and a TON of room to park ECVs by the TS. Mara( CS) is out by the pool with plenty of accessible seating inside and out.

the elevators are no problem at all, even the ones that open out right by Jiko/Boma.

Just to set the proper expectation, regardless of what you check on the form, it's not guaranteed.

I understand why the Lobby floor might be appealing; having spent time at busy hotels where the wait for an elevator alone can add significant time to your schedule (and then add in using an ECV in an unfamiliar environment), the lure of the "ground floor" is strong! :) Ever since I had to start using an ECV on a regular basis, I don't like being on upper floors because if there was an emergency, I would not be able to use the stairs.

Ironically, I never have that concern at WDW. I don't know why; it's only at hotels outside WDW that I have that anxiety!

At any rate, I would suggest checking the "Ground Floor" box; that will most likely get her the closest to the Lobby. You can always call Reservations, and let them know why Lobby level is preferred, but again - they won't be able to guarantee anything.
