Staying at AKL next weekend. DW & DD (15) just announced our oldest DD's boyfriend (15) will be vsiting with us. We know AKL rooms are small and recommended for 4 but now we'll be five. What should I do? Tell them when we arrive we're one more and try to get a cot? Call ahead and see what's up? Say nothing and risk sleeping on the floor? Any thoughts?

DD's 15 yer old boyfriend gets to sleep over?

wow. why is your 15 year old DD dictating what your family does on vacation?? i would tell DW and DD tuff cookies.

anyway, call ahead and reserve a cot. i dont think disney likes people sleeping on the floor.

Hi. I would ask at check-in whether there is a deluxe room available, that you have one extra person joining you. Maybe they will give you a comp. upgrade at check-in.

Lighten up. It's not like the boy will be bunking up with the daughter. Sheesh. And the "dictating" comment...The guy asked a question and people go all judgemental on him!
Anyway, I think that I would call ahead and make arrangements for one extra. Better to be safe than to count on getting a cot or room change at checkin, especially on a weekend.

Thanks cdrn1, my wife said these comments would follow...Just to illuminate, the boyfriend lives 200 miles away (their 'get togethers' are only family affairs), my daughter is a very centered and down to earth girl who has been in and out of the hospital for most of the past two years and has missed out on much of her childhood. This young man is a wonderful kid and we will be with them, after all.

To the topic, thanks for the info...Any other thoughts and I'd be delighted to hear them.

I don't have any ideas for the 5th person issue. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with letting him stay with the family. We are a very conservative, Christian family, and my sisters' dhs were allowed to go on family vacations with us before they were married. Older ds took hers on family ski trip - he slept in living room. Younger ds took hers to WDW, they shared a room with our grandmother. I don't think too much inappropriate stuff will be happening in a room with mom and dad!

I second what others have said about trying to get a deluxe room. If that does happen, you can get the queen/bunk/sofa bed room configuration and everything would work out well! This is what I originally had reserved for our July concierge trip to AKL, knowing I needed separate sleeping arrangements for three children *ok, two are technically adults but they're children in my eyes, especially when one of them is mine!* :)

You're going to LOVE AKL! Happy planning!

I agree. This is far too harsh. I have been in that same situation and hopefully we have all brought up our kids in a proper fashion and a sleep over, with parents, is not an issue.

Peter, we're a family of five staying at AKL for 2 nights in December.

Only the Deluxe rooms and the Concierge rooms will accommodate families of five. These would all be 4th and 5th floor rooms. You can reduce the cost slightly by getting a pool view (not sure if Deluxe comes with standard view or not).

It's Florida fire code that restricts the number of people per room, not Disney...it's a safety issue.

I hope that your daughter's trip to Disney is an indicator that her health is on the mend. Nothing can replace a childhood lost to illness, but I hope that this trip to WDW will be a truly magical time for all of you.

God bless,

Kristina
