In February, we are going to finally stay at a deluxe resort. We have narrowed it down to AKL or the Boardwalk. Although we like the theming of AKL a lot better, another big factor is that my mom uses a wheelchair in Disney World. She can only walk short distances. Which resort is more handicap accessible? We like that you can walk to Epcot and MGM, and not have to fuss with getting onto a bus. Still, AKL is my dream resort, and I'd hate to waste this once-in-a-lifetime experience on a resort I'm not too excited about.

Both are accessible pretty much the same. Both are big resorts and would include a lot of walking just to get around the resort, so if you are planning on only renting a wheelchair or ECV in the parks, I'd strongly suggest getting one that can be used at your resort. There is info in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
Being able to take the path to 2 parks or take the boats is a BIG plus to staying at Boardwalk.
We have not stayed at AKL, but have visited there many times. It's a a very interesting resort with a lot to see. Have you thought of splitting your stay and being at AK a few days and BW for the rest?

I have stayed at akl and i am very sensitve to ADA issues 1. because my brother is in a power chair and 2. because I am an interior designer and need to understand all the code issues.

So that being said AKL seemed extremly accessible. We happened to get an ada room and it looked great. Nice large bathroom, raised toilet, grab bars, and a large roll in shower with a bench. The grounds are very accessible and even has a zero entry pool. ..but it is far from everything! So because of that reason in June my family and I are staying at the BW. My brother likes that he can walk (or drive as he says;) ) to mgm and epcot! in terms of grounds not sure yet!
