AKL upgrade question

My husband and I are going for an adult only anniversary trip in just 8 days!!! After much debate I decided to upgrade to the AKL. We were originally at POP the CSR and now AKL.

At the time of my late booking I could only get a standard room or a savannah view. I decided to save and get the standard view since we were already spending $500 more than CSR!

Well now with all my reading and because I think we will spend quite a bit of time at the resort I was thinking of trying club level. I feel like that would be worth more to me for the upgraded cost then just the savannah view. Only one hiccup, no rooms available. Just 1BR villa but that is way out of the budget.

So my question is has anyone had any luck with upgrading to club level upon check in? Do you think it will be worth the price increase if they do have it available? I don't want to do just the savannah view but the club level may be cool and a once in a lifetime kind of thing as we usually travel with our kids.

Also, we arrive at MCO at 5:30pm. Is it at all realistic to try and make it to AK that night to see ROL? I have a FP and believe it starts at 9:15. I'm not worried if we don't do any rides or anything in AK and just make ROL. We would then just head back to AKL to relax.

I think club level would be a great upgrade for an anniversary trip. We have never been able to find availability upon arrival for club level but it's definitely worth it to ask. Good luck!!!

They generally won't upgrade a typical room to Club Leve access, so the actual CL room would need to be available, and you'd likely have to pay rack for the upgrade.

I think the likelihood of upgrading upon arrival is pretty low. Disney resorts operate at such a full occupancy level it makes things like that challenging. If you're not seeing any availability at this point, there's a good chance it'll still be that way when you arrive.

If by chance they could reassign you to a CL room (which involves having the actual room inventory available to put you in), you'd likely have to pay the full rack rate. Anything is possible and it's worth asking, but I'd keep your expectations low.

Have you tried and/or do you have the ability to tinker with your dates a day or so on either end? Sometimes I have to do that for later planned trips to find availability.

It can't hurt to ask when you check in. AKL is a lovely resort, I hope you have a great trip either way!

Thanks everyone for the replies! I didn't realize it would be rack rate. I thought it would just be the difference in the discounted rates. I don't think that it would be worth it to get it at rack rate. I guess I'll ask and see but I don't see us doing it at rack rate :-(
