AKL to begin charging $30 premium for arusha savanna views in 2011

Personally, I'm a sunset savanna, close to the lobby person. My fav place to be :)

I know I am in the minority here, be we fell in love with the Pembe Savanna last month.

Granted we didn't have giraffes and zebras, but we had just about every other animal - and lots of them!

Best of all - our balcony seemed totally private - we couldn't see anyone else's balcony - at all - because of the curvature of the "beads" on that side of the hallway. Our family right across the hall on the Sunset Savanna could see the balconies of every other room on that side except for those right on top of them or right below them.

We fell in love with our privacy. Yes - that access road is back there, but honestly, during the 10 nights we stayed there - we only saw 4 or 5 vehicles total. It's not like it backs up to I-4, you know?

Pembe is going to be our request from now on.

Pembe seems spectacular. It has unique animals and vegetation, doesn't it? Can't wait to check it out on our next visit. It's a great option for Kidani guests, but AKL/Jambo distinctions are more subtle.

We personally thought Arusha was a slam dunk when we stayed there because of the expansive view and ability to see Everest on the horizon.

Here are a couple of photos from our last Arusha stay in 2008 (we were in Kidani last year); you can see the tiny little everest peak in the rainbow one:

We went to AKL in April 2010 (before we bought DVC). I requested Arusha Savanna, but the woman at check-in insisted that Sunset was "her favorite," and that I shouldn't listen to people on the internet. The room we were assigned was terrible. I'm sure there exist good rooms that overlook sunset, but if you look at the Jambo floorplan, it is clear that rooms in the corners have 'views' that are 50% building. Yuck. Why would I pay extra for a savanna view so that I can look at the building and other people?!
I complained and got an Arusha room instead. Lucky for me I go at unbusy times. The person on the phone was very nice about it.
Arusha is very much worth more.
I'm just not sure if Arusha is worth $30 more.
$30 rack translates to about 18.00 with a discount, so that's not too terrible.

Now that we have DVC, I'm happy to get any view at AKL. Paying with points is so inexpensive. Also non-savanna rooms are probably fine too since there are so many viewing areas to enjoy the animals. Though there is something special and odd about watching a giraffe while brushing ones teeth.
