Searching on all the discussion boards, I have read that 3rd floor rooms at AKL can experience a lot of noise because this is the main floor. With everybody leaving and coming, etc. But is this true for all 3rd floor rooms or only the ones near the lobby? Looking at the resort map, I would think that 3rd floor rooms further out toward the ends of each wing, wouldn't be so bad. Is this true?

while I cant say for sure - I would assume that to be true. There are probably 10-15 rooms or so off the lobby and then there is an elevator so most everyone would get on that if their room wasnt on the 3rd floor - making the next 10 rooms or so quieter

Third floor last year, end of hall, absolutely no noise.

Your assumption wold be correct. The Lobby is on the 3rd floor and any rooms close in to the lobby, before your reach the elevators, would be noisier in terms of foot traffic outside your room. The quietest rooms are all out at the ends of the "trails" (or of the earth it somtimes seems, but worth it). We actually prefer the 2nd floor, since it's a bit closer to the animals, tho you do lose a bit of the "majestic vista" part.

Enjoy!

Both times we were at AKL, we were on 2nd floor. The first time, not very far down the hall, the 2nd time almost at the end. We perfer being way down the hall. We had more hallway noise when we were closer in to the lobby even though we weren't on the lobby floor. The farther down the hall you are, the less people that walk by. Also, there were more animals at the end of the hallway.

Guys, seriously, it's a hotel. This isn't home. Short of soundproofing every room (a very very expensive proposition for ANY hotel), your going to have noise. If you don't want noise in any way shape or form, stay off site.

It's very annoying to constantly to see the complaints about noise. Well of course there's noise. It's Disney with hundreds of little kids running around screaming outside of your door. People checking in and out at all hours of the night. And more.

Most hotels are like this. The hotels can stop things like parties and whatnot, but they can't stop people from doing regular people things like walking down the hall, and getting stuff from ice/pop machines.

The OP has a legitimate question. As a matter of fact, any question asked on these boards is relevant to someone. I don't think it is appropriate to call questions "annoying".

We stayed on the third floor almost to the end of the Kudu Trail, a long walk to Mara, etc., but no noise and the view of the giraffes here was beyond belief.

Enjoy!

I wasn't complaining about the noise. I just said that the second time it was quieter farther down the hallway. I did not find either time bad for noise, but there was a difference and for us, even more important was seeing more animals farther down the hallway.

We were on the 3rd floor, Zebra Trail about halfway down the hallway both times we stayed at AKL. We did not have a problem with the noise at all. Even being near the elevators there was not a noise problem.

There's nothing wrong with figuring out which rooms in a hotel or resort tend to be noisier or which ones are quieter. Doesn't mean a person shouldn't stay at that resort or are being annoying. Kind of harsh, I think.

Not to mention that off-site can have the same issues.

We're requested rooms at the end of halls before and liked not having much foot traffic past the room (of course the walk can sometimes be long).

We had a room at the end of the hall recently at WL, and heard no hall noise, however, we had a bozo in the room next to us that kept us awake until VERY late at night with LOUD talking (we're talking yelling, but she didn't seem to be mad), etc. That can happen anywhere, of course, and I don't fault Disney for that.

But thats the whole point. Your going to find noise anywhere. Hotels don't install noise proofing in the rooms.

I understand that people want quiet rooms but if your staying a hotel, thats going to be hard to find. Unless the people next door are having a party or theres alot of excessive noise, there is nothing that can be done about it.

Complaining because people are walking down the hall too loudly, you can hear the toilets flushing, or you don't like how loudly the doors to the rooms close (all of these complaints are ones I've heard about on here), is rather ridiculous.

Really, if you want very quiet rooms, don't go to a hotel. Try a home away from home or rent an apartment for your stay instead.

It's just very frustrating to see it brought up so often on these boards.

We have stayed twice, once on the second floor, and once on the third. Both were about the same for noise. Both were on Kudo trail just before the hallway where guest laundry is.

We have stayed there 2X, both on the third floor. We were at least half-way down the hall and didn't have any noise at all. We really enjoyed our stays at AKL. I do understand what people are saying about noise. Sure, you are staying in a hotel and cannot expect perfect quiet, but IMHO there are rooms that are a lot worse than others and I don't see anything wrong in trying to figure out what the best room would be for your family. Sometimes near an elevator is best, with young children or people who have mobility problems, etc. etc. I do believe that the closer you are to the lobby the nosier it would be because what I have experienced at the AKL is that a lot of people who are not staying there and are just visiting tend to walk a little way down the halls to "see" what the resort looks like, see animals, etc. I would think that those rooms would be noisy. The further down the hall you are the better. Some people don't like walking too far to their room, but my family really enjoyed our walks to our room, there are lots of places to see the animals and tons of interesting stuff to look at.

Have Fun !!

Of course there are many themes that are brought up again and again on the boards, but I just simply don't read them if I don't want to.

At Pop Century I had complaints about the noise, but it was because I was staying in an area that many people walked through to get to the main building and bus. I'll have to say I wouldn't have been bothered in the least by people walking by and talking, but when it was late at night and people would be yelling back and forth to family members or friends that were far away, that would wake us up. So it wasn't the normal noise, but again, rude people. But, I will stay there again and will request a room not facing a common area, and I know it will be quieter, at least from outside noise.

The toilet complaints humor me, though--I love the toilets and want them for my house--my kids are always clogging ours and those noisy pressure toilets would help the cause. :teeth:

A person just has to know the "nature of the beast" at any resort. At AKL it seems that imany people have to walk past some rooms to get to the elevators and walk down the hallway from the lobby to check out the animals (or walk to the kids club, as I recall) so knowing where to stay can help the people who want things quieter.

Totalia, I think what you're saying is that some people expect to hear no outside noise, which is unrealistic. What some of us are saying is that there are areas in all the hotels that are quieter than other areas and a person can find those rooms and maybe not hear quite as much noise.

We were on the 3rd floor of zebra trail last February, about 6 doors in from the lobby. I noticed some noise one morning around 7 am of the MK early entry day (a few children running down the halls). It wasn't loud enough to wake my kids, so it didn't bother me. Other than that, it was quiet.

Personally, I would request this location again because it was very easy to get to/from the bus stop (no elevators!).

We have stayed at AKL on two trips. On both occassions we were on the 3rd Floor about 5 rooms down from the lobby. We requested and received bunk beds both times.

We never had an issue with excessive noise.

Thanks everyone for your responses and experiences at AKL. Very helpful. :D

Thanks Tigger&Belle - that was my train of thought when I asked my question.
