I've just changed my hotel from YC to AKL for next May - unfortunately I just can't justify the money for the YC in the current economic climate and as I've never been to AKL thought it was time to try it :goodvibes

One of the things I'm looking forward to is sitting out on my balcony sipping a glass of wine watching the animals but was wondering what other things there are to see/do at the Lodge?

Thanks

I recall it was pleasant listening to the story teller by the fire out back in the evenings. Wear insect repellent, though.:hippie:

Thanks - I'm always getting 'attacked' by the insects so I guess I'd better go with extra strength repellent this time :rotfl:

I am staying there next month, cannot wait. I hear they have night vision goggles so you can watch the animals at night and every day at 4pm they have a free sampling tour of Jiko and Boma.

Have a fab time, I look forward to hearing what you think :thumbsup2

I stayed there in January 2008. My first trip to Disneyworld, and my first trip to any resort. Had a great, great, time. Waking up in the morning, watching the animals graze on the savannah. Took the safari on AKL's savannah. When you figure in the cost for your meal, the cost of the safari was reasonable.

I liked the trip so much that I bought into the DVC, and have added points twice more since. No immediate plans to go back to AKL, but I'll be at OKW in February 2009.

This is a great resort - just a warning it is huge and we were the very farthest room out - that was a lot of walking.

The savannah view rooms are just gorgeous and the animals come out throughout the day - particulary first thing in the morning and sunset.

The lobby and outside pool area are wonderful....have a great time!!!

In addition to the things mentioned by the PP, there is also a cultural talk for about 30 minutes each night. I did this in May and it was very interesting. One of the CMs at AKL, spends 30 minutes telling you about their homeland.

I ended up switching back to the YC - although I really love the look and sound of AKL my favourite park is Epcot and being able to walk to Epcot is a big plus for me :)

I will give AKL a go one day though :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Had my first stay at AKL in May 08. LOVED IT!! I'm not usually one to spend much time on a balcony but not so with our Savannah View room. When we were at the resort I went straight to the balcony. If you don't have a savannah view room there are many viewing locations available. I think Boma and Jiko are two of the best restaurants at all of DW! The counter service and pool area is also superb. I like the remote feel and had no issues with the bus transportation. Did I say I Loved it!!!
