What type of view would the standard view include at AKL. Is it mostly parking lot or are there other options as well. Which buildings are the standards at? I am just happy to stay at AKL, and can view the animals from the observation deck. But I just wondered what this means. Thanks

Jen

Mostly it is parking lot views or tree tops. But I'm w/ you just staying at AKL will make me happy! You can view the animals from many places.

If you are traveling in the less crowded value seasons you have a chance of getting a free upgrade to Savannah view. We have always gotten this upgrade without even asking. However, even without the Savannah view the AKL is incredible.

What month did you go during Value Season? Our TA says we have a good chance of being upgraded, we decided to hold off reserving a Savannah view until after we arrive. We are staying January 4 - 12, 2006.

We're thinking of going to WDW, and it looks like AKL would be fun. Is there a time of year where you can see more animals? Do they come right to your balcony?

That would be great. We are going in Sept. and it will be our 10th wedding anniversary. What time of year did you go?

Now I'm having second thoughts. We're going the 1st week in October. I have 3 nights regular view and 4 nights standard. Should I change it to all 7 nights regular and risk not being able to upgrade? What would you do?

There are plenty of places in the hotel to see the animals, I suggest if you can swing the extra money - go for a Savanah View you will not be disapointed. When we were at the hotel, I was always on the balcony watching the animals

We originally booked a standard view room hoping for the upgrade. We checked in-no upgrade. Our standard view room had a very boring view of roof-tops.
We called down to front desk and asked to be changed to savannah view, luckily they did have rooms available with the savannah view and we upgraded-of course we had to pay for the upgrade, but it was well worth it imho.
It's a hard call, no rhyme or reason as to why some get free upgrades and other's don't. We were travelling with our children, some say they give the savannah view upgrades to folks with kids, but not the case for us. It's hard to say.
The lesson learned is always book what you will be happy with~ :goodvibes

I think I will stick with the standard view. We will be there for 5 days and have one and half days just to explore the hotel and the animals. If I had a tight schedule, I would go for the savannah view but since we have so much time to participate in activities around the hotel, it won't be a big deal.

I've stayed at AKL a few times, always in a savannah room. Just did a quick trip and there was a great AP rate in standard, but nothing in savannah so I went with standard. When I checked in I inquired about an upgrade - $60 per night for savannah (as opposed to over $100 per night when I called) but only $10 per night for pool. I upgraded to pool and was very happy. I love AKL so I would have been happy with the standard too.

I agree, for our 2004 trip we paid for pool view at the AKL hoping to get upgraded? You guessed it & no upgrade. I wasn't too disappointed but next time if the view is important to you then book it because it's just luck of the draw who gets upgraded. Now for the same trip we were upgraded to a fabulous view at the WL so we were a little spoiled. But we saw plenty of animals anyway & for us personally the difference to pay for savannah view was too high.

We paid for standard view, but got a free upgrade to savannah view during this last trip of ours. It was incredible! The next time we go, we'll definitely pay for a pool view or savannah view. The only thing I'd be leery of with the standard view is if you get one of the few rooms near the bus stop. It seems to me that those rooms would be really loud from the bus noise and the guests unloading.

in May we stayed at the AKL for 4 nights paid for and stayed in standard rooms but the standard rooms we received actually both had a pool view... the only thing was that they were sort of over a downstairs area so that we could see the roof of it but the views were still quite incredible

Dh and I visited AKL for the first time last fall. Despite the resort being fairly full, we were up-graded to a savanna view room. We were told it was because we had requested a King room but none were available.

We spent the first night of our 7 nights at AKL this past May in a standard view room. It wouldn't have been so bad except we were on the 5th floor. These are the rooms that are set into the roof line. Thus, the rush roof hands low, and the balcony has a solid lower wall. While this prevented us from clearly seeing the parking lot from inside our room, it also made the room unpleasantly dark.

While I think AKL is a majical resort regardless of your view, I doubt we will stay in a standard view for more than a single night again. It's seeing the animals from your room that is so special.
