AKL Standard View Room vs. WL Woods View Room question...

Dear friends, I'm trying to figure out which one will be the best option for me... both rooms cost about the same...
I read some mixed reviews about the Standard view rooms of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, so my question is: How the rooms in AKL and WL compare (reardless of the view)? If it was up to you what would you prefer: a roof/parking lot view at the AKL or a Woods view at teh WL?
Have someone here been disappointed with their Standard view rooms at AKL?
Thnax :)

We stayed in both this summer. Both standard views. We loved the ambiance of AKL much more than WL. As standard views go we were upgraded(without asking) to a pool view at AKL. At WL we again we upgrade to Otter pond view. I too was worried about standard view at AKL. I saw the two rooms I think most people are refering to as you walk to the bus stop. They would be terrible to have if you want to look outside. You really can't. I almost can't believe Disney has these rooms avaliable. The room looked like our room on the inside when I walked by and someone had a light on inside I could see in. Yes, that is how bad a location it is. But, the chance of you getting one of these I would think is small, especially if you get there early for check-in. The hotel itself is beautiful. So even if you would get this room I feel the hotel is worth it. Boma's was delicious but expensive. The pool is very nice (slide below average according to my daughter). Staff was wonderful except check-in. The views from all over the hotel(except those two rooms:) AWESOME! We hope that there are codes next year because we really enjoyed this resort. I hope this helped.

Without regard to location of the room i would pick the AKL over the WL as I like the room decore much better but that is only one part of the equasion. I would have a really hard time paying for a view of the parking area and not the animals at the AKL. To me, the whole point of the AKL is to sit on the balconey and watch the animals. Lots of people have said they did fine in the standard view rooms and walking over to the animal viewing areas. The resort is wonderful, has a great feel to it and makes for a very relaxing stay, but maybe not so much if you are sitting on your balconey watching the busses pull in and out or seeing the signs of businesses on 192.
The WL woods view rooms would be great too as far as relaxing goes. Though I don't like the decore as much it is still a wonderful place to stay and I still like the lobby and look of the building better than the AKL.
I know this isn't alot of help but maybe gives you a couple things to think about.

I've stayed at WL - will be staying at AKL in a few weeks, but - shhhh!! - it's a secret as my family doesn't know! They think we are still booked at CBR! Anyway, the long and short of it is - as we have additional family members along, I really couldn't swing savannah view...just standard. I, would, of course LOVE the savannah view - BUT...the way I figure it, to stay at AKL at all is doing what many people only dream of - vacationing in Disney at a deluxe resort. I am prepared for ANY view, because the view outside my balcony is about 1/60th of how I plan on enjoying this trip. And, if we get the bus room (oh, I am praying we won't!) - then look for me on the balcony sipping my South African wine and waving to people on the walkway! :)

I can't wait to experience AKL...and for me, I don't have to experience the not-so-private room balcony on the savannah because I will be surrounded by several members of my family, and one very excited nephew who has never even stayed in a MOTEL, yet at Disney...so...I kind of think AKL will wow him even if we are looking at the roof! If you think you will love the ambiance of AKL - then stay there. Please don't let the standard room views dissuade you.

Have a great trip whatever resort you choose.

Tesabat,

It will wow your nephew and probably everyone in your party. It is beautiful in an African way. The way you are approaching this is familar to me. So many times I had to remind myself how lucky we were to even be staying in a Disney deluxe hotel. Whatever view you get will be great. Have fun.

We stayed in a standard view room at the AKL. The room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the handicapped parking lot. There was plenty of vegetation between us & the parking lot, so we did not feel like we were only looking at cars. Actually it was very pleasant to sit on the balcony in the morning. We had plenty of chances to view the animals from the three savannahs. I would stay at the AKL again in a heartbeat & I am not an animal lover (too many alergies).

Fourtunately, the giraffes don't sleep in bed with you.

Carli, huh? I enjoyed watching the giraffes day & night, but I never expected them to be in my room or my bed :).

I was making a joking reference to your allergies and how it was lucky you were able to enjoy AKL without getting any zebra dander on you.
