I officially started packing today!!!!!

We stocked up on toiletries today and went shopping to replace a dead suitcase. Found a nice samsonite on for 60% off at Kohls. Perhaps it will last longer that the cheap one we had before.

And I didn't know the schools had gotten so tough on the other side of town. They make you guys start on sunday this year! Okay just a small slip there and we will forgive.

The days are ticking down. I told my boss that I need to start closing down my projects since vacation started in two weeks. I thought I needed some extra time to do proper planning and preparation. He thought it was funny, but told me to keep working anyway. Maybe he thought I was not serious, maybe I wasn't, maybe I was. Oh well, I don't mind the work. I have a good job and a good group of people to work with.

13 days to go, but it is the end of the day so it is really close to 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD5's teacher is supposed to call this weekend to talk about our trip. She put a note on DD's "end of the week" report on Friday with a little smiley face after it, so I'm assuming that she doesn't have a problem with it.

(I still couldn't get it from the disney.com site. Sigh.)

So now the question is - we get in late Sunday afternoon 9/16. I don't want to blow a ticket on just going to see fireworks, so where can we see the ones at MK or MGM from OUTSIDE the park? I was thinking monorail rides and a stop at the Contemporary to see the MK fireworks....??? Would that work?
Can we see the MGM fireworks from anywhere outside the park?

You can see Wishes from the Poly - check to see if you can get an ADR for 'Ohana, they pipe in the music and dim the lights during the show, it's pretty cool. Otherwise you can watch from the beach. It's definitely not the same as viewing from inside the park, but it's still good. You can see it from the Contemporary as well.

I didn't even know MGM had a fireworks show!!! Is it only during certain seasons?

So much of Illuminations is low, I have no idea if you can see it from outside of the park.

I was just reading someone's review of their stay at the AKL and she said that only one of the three Savannas is open and that is probably how it will remain until construction is done!!! What??? Is this true? She called it Zebra Savanna, so I am not sure which one she is talking about. I am going to be really bummed if there is no viewing out near the pool - we really love the night vision and being able to see the animals while we're outside. I also like relaxing on the rocking chairs near the lobby and Arusha rock area.

Hey guys, we were doing so good with all the noise - WHAT HAPPENED?????? Where is everyone? I know school starts tomorrow, but come on Disney is close in our future!!!!!!

Did you guys survive the first day of school?
We had the first cub scout meeting of the year last night. It was a lot of fun, but the kids had LOTS of energy. So I guess things are normal.

By the way just 10 days to go. Tomorrow begins the single digit dance!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I can now count the days on 1 hand. We still haven't got our travel docs I know I don't have to have them but I'm really hoping that they arrive in time. Our TA sent them out last Monday via Express International so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Even though it is soooo close, it just never feels like it is real until those docs arrive.

Awesome and just think tomorrow will only be 4. I don't remember for sure but you are probably the first of the "long running" members of this thread. Heres hoping for a quick delivery of docs and a quick passing of the week.

Oh man... I can't believe you haven't gotten your docs yet! I hope they come before you leave home, it really does help to build the excitement. Plus your coupons will come with it.

We are getting so close to our trip now, I can't believe it.

Last night was Parent's Night at Max's kindergarten class, he will start school tomorrow. I already worked up the courage to ask his teacher about the school's policy on family vacations. She told me that she wasn't exactly sure or even concerned about what the official policy was, but that she thinks family vacations are amazing learning experiences and she is really excited for us (she wants to come along!) She told me that we can fill out a form if Max will be gone for 5 days or more to do an Independent Learning Program, she will give him a little assignment to do on vacation pertaining to the trip and he won't even be counted absent!!! Holy Moley... how cool is that?

Yes I think I was the one who was supposed to make the dash for the Presidential Suite and hold it for the next one who would pass it down and so on. Hmmm, guess I'll have to bring my runners.

Yeah!!! Thanks space ranger!!! That reminds me...if anyone wants to make a little Disney magic for my DH, if you happen to see us, stop us and ask my DH if he's the guy who did the Really Cool Proposal at the MK. My DH takes pride in his romantic effort there.

Also, to anyone coming in after the 22nd: I have purchased a 5-tier hanging toy bin. It hangs from the top in a closet on the rod. We are planning on using it to keep track of all the little odds and ends, such as wallets, lanyards, sunglasses and hats. One level for each person, with the bottom one open, maybe for snacks and such. That way, I can see at a glance who didn't put their lanyard away and perhaps forestall the panicked search in the morning! I only paid $4 for it, and just don't want to bring it home. However, I thought it would be cool to leave it at the desk for a guest coming after me, and perhaps it could make the rounds of many AKLers. Just a thought. If anyone is interested in getting this, let me know. BTW, this is a tip I read about here on the DIS boards!
