AKL savannahview but no animals?

My DH and I stayed at AKL this past January-Zebra trail , Arusha savannah. We saw a lot of animals, but I wish that they were closer to our balcony.
I wish we didn't have to use our binoculars so much!:p

We still had a wonderful time, and will definitely stay savannah view again :)

AKL Savannah Deluxe #5383 almost at the end of the arc - saw lots of animals there and at the watering holes as well

Very satisfied with the room and animal viewing

Also went to Arusha (sp?) Rock and spoke with the CM's and saw some animals from there as well

With the artificial moonlight, peaceful Savannah View and the design of the two arcs in symmetry that alone is enough for me to go for Savannah - the animals just add the icing to the cake

thanks

We were in room 5315 on the Arusha Savannah (concierge). First day, we ran up to the room, flung back the drapes, ripped open the slider and saw.....nothing.
Pig Pen, We were staying on concierge level on the 31st and 1st. It sounds like we needed to stay a couple of more days to see more of the animals :)

There are so many public viewing areas at AKL, you will have many opportunities to see animals as long as you make the effort to do so. Yes, some savannah view rooms might be better than others in terms of animal sightings (and perhaps that's not fair), but all you have to do is go out and explore the public viewing areas. Even if you DO have a good view from your room, I think you miss out on the whole AKL experience if you don't explore the other viewing areas and the resort as a whole, IMHO. I think many guests in standard view rooms still enjoy their AKL stay, because they make the effort to get out and view the animals. And remember, the savannah view rooms are just that--"savannah view," not "animal view" rooms. As in the real savannahs, animals are free to roam and may end up behind brush, trees, etc. They're not going to always wander by your room as if on parade somehow. :) If you stay at AKL, make sure to explore the resort...you won't regret it.

Do you think that you see less animals from the concierge rooms (5th or 6th floor??)? IS it too high? If we wanted a better chance of seeing the animals should we just get a regular savannah room?

If animals was the key criteria, I would go for regular view to lessen the distance and be more at the level of the Savannah and the animals that live there

I am not sure if the animals are our key criteria or not. We have never been to AKL before. I was thinking of staying at Pop Century for 6 days where we would be going to the parks, etc. Then spending 2 days at AKL and making them non-park days. I thought it may be nice to go concierge since we will be hanging out at the resort. But then it may also be nice to sit on the balcony and watch the animals.

So with that in mind, should I get a savannah room or concierge room.

Maggie

I would go with a Savannah room - if there are no kids and just adult(s) then the Deluxe Savannah rooms have a king bed with a sleeper sofa so that is a nice option especially without kids

AKL is a good resort to pick for non-park days - good approach - between the public viewing areas, your balcony, the zero entry pool, the activies, story time and the events hosted by people from Africa (for example while I was there there was a Safari/Geography night on national park reserves in Southern Africa - it was very informative)

And then dinner at Boma's and or Jiko - yum!

I do not see the Concierge as worthwhile especially for non-park days when you will have the time to plan and place activies, dinners etc. if desired

I'd requested a room from which I could see zebra (I still laugh that that's written on my confirmation) and got there to find that we hadn't got that - but I figured, no worries we can see them elsewhere - and I was glad we got the room we did. From various zebra hunting expeditions it seemed that the animals on the 'zebra friendly' savannah lived more at the back in the trees, and came into view mostly morning and evening at food time, whereas we had at least two giraffe outside our room (3324) at all times: we got to see them fighting, kneeling down to drink, sleeping, running it was fabulous: we also had mooing cattle, a bonkers ostrich and some very cute things, the name of which escapes me, but which became known as target butts for reasons obvious to anyone who's seen them. I did however make an effort every day to go out to a different viewing point and just sit and watch and talk to the guides so by the end of the trip I'd seen everything and heard some amazing stories. It's a fabulous resort - and it's only 550 days till I get to go again!!!

You all have beautifull stories about AKL:D
I am really looking forward to spent some time overthere.
My DBF and I are real animallovers, so this is the place we have to visit! Looking forward to dinner as well!

To be completely honest, I was terribly disappointed with AKL. We got a savannah view room, and we never saw ANY animals - and we checked in at several different times of the day.

All of the CMs we encountered were rude, we had to beg housekeeping to clean up crackers that were all over the floor from the last tenants, and AKL is really far away from anything other than AK.

We actually won't be returning to that hotel.

VERY well stated!

I think more people should understand that!
