AKL Savannah view worth paying almost double over pool view?

I'm joining the bulk of the crowd and saying I don't think it's worth it to spend that much more for the savanna view. We stayed at AKL this past summer for the first time. We had a pool view, and prior to our trip I was worried that I would feel like I was "missing out" on what the big draw of the resort was. I was pleasantly surprised by our wonderful pool view. There were so many places to view the animals at the resort. There were even glass partitions in the resort just down from our room in the hallway that allowed us to see the animals as we came and went each day from our room. I definitely think pool view is the way to go!

I'm an AP holder and priced out various different resort stays with the current AP room discount offer.

When I priced out rooms at AKL with the discount, Savaanah view rooms were nearly double the price of pool view rooms (with tax, about $480 a night for a Savannah view room and around $280 a night for a pool view room).

Basically, it looks as if the Savannah view rooms aren't discounted much at all whereas the pool view rooms have a decent discount applied to an already lower price (by way of further comparison, with the discount, even Poly garden view rooms were more than $100 a night less than AKL Savannah view rooms).

If staying at AKL, would you pay $480 a night for a Savannah view room when you could get a pool view room for $280? Is having a view from your balcony of the animals really worth $200 a night?

You didn't mention your travel dates, however if you're traveling during off-peak season and are arriving Sunday through Thursday, I'd book a standard view room and see if you can get a free upgrade to Savannah view. I know it's not guaranteed, but every time we've gone I've always booked standard view and have gotten an upgrade to Savannah view room for free. I've always booked a standard view but have never stayed in one. It's worked 100% of the time for us and we've been there at least a dozen times over the past 8 years. HTH
