Hi -

We just booked a savannah room at AKL. (us & 2 young sons)

Had two questions for you AKL veterans:

are there animal odors? mild, strong, none? (mid-late April)

can you request a view of a certain savannah, and if so what would you recommend?

we were debating between standard and savannah, and i saw so many positive comments on savannah that we decided to spring for it (and pay a pretty penny - we're stuck in spring vacation rates!) would love any comments about akl savannah experiences.

Hi flagal, I stayed at AKL in Dec and never noticed any smells either on the balcony or at any of the viewing areas.
I stayed on Kudu Trail, Sunset Savanna, room #4306, and saw lots of animals. Many people prefer the 2nd or 3rd floors, Arusha Rock Savanna, but we had a really nice view from our balcony.:) Have fun planning and enjoy as AKL is a beautiful resort!!:)

..it was room 3228 on the KUDU trail. Definitely no smells and an assortment of animals like giraffes, zebras and some BIG things with horns (such a naturalist I am) . The room was fine and we had a wonderful room fixer-upper named Anna who left us towel animal decorations, lots of soap and LOTS of Mickey shampoo every day. Boma is WONDERFUL !!!

Just returned from trip on Sunday (4/7) and the temps were in the mid to upper 80's and we never smelled anything (well, maybe a few other tourist whose deoderant ran out after they had spent the day in the parks like us, LOL!!! ). The animals are kept at least 50 feet or so from the buildings so you don't smell them. I saw no "droppings" so I guess they clean up after them.

We were on the "Zebra" trail and saw a good variety of animals. I specifically asked for a 2nd or 3rd floor room near the Giraffe feeding stations and we were in room 2501 directly across from one of the stations (they are about 100 ft from the building so many rooms would have a good view of them). However, this room was next to and on the same level as the viewing deck and we did get some noise from other guest on the viewing deck.

Living on a farm raising horses, sheep and cattle --- I am always amazed at you "city folK" who think about smells from animals. But then again I hate the smell of the city --- exhaust, smog and that unique city smell. Guess it all depends on your perspective.

We stayed at AKL in December, it was AWESOME... What you really want is a room overlooking Arusha Rock, if you get that, you will be SET... that's where we were & there are animals there ALL the time night & day... There was NO smell I could detect from the animals...

You will be so glad you upgraded your reservation to a Savannah view, it really can't be beat!

No smells from my visits either....I would ask for the Zebra trail or Kudu trail.... They all have very good views of the Arusha Savannah

Rooms I wouldn't want to get are XX51-XX85 or XX41-XX66
They are in the corner and don't always get a real view of a savannah.....

I was away for about a week....thank you all for the great advice!

When I first made the res. I was told I couldn't request anything.....I think sometimes it's just a question of calling till you get the right helpful CM!! And now I will.

Also....Renee, funny, how the smells we each grew up with are "natural" and not smelly.....you're right, I guess I am a city girl!

I stayed in a savannah view room (#4229) this past December. There were no odors whatsoever. Our room was very near Arusha Rock, and it was on Kudu trail. It was very nice--we saw lots of animals. The newness of the resort is also really apparent. They have a nice digital thermostat, the tub has wide sides for plenty of room for your shampoo, and the sink has a ledge over it for you to keep your toiletries on. The only thing I might request differently is a room down on the 2nd or 3rd floors so the tree canopies don't get in the way in your pictures. Enjoy your stay! :)
