We are rescheduling our May 2020 trip for May 2021 trip. We are hoping to surprise our daughter for her 30th birthday by doing a split stay at AKL and POFQ. We are wanting a Savanah view at AKL. Is there a certain building etc we need to request or all Savanah views equal? Thanks for all your help.

Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House, is all in one building. There is a separate DVC (Disney timeshare) property, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Kidani Village, which is separate from Jambo. But in terms of reservations, those are treated as two different hotels (even though they are in walking distance and when you stay at one, you are allowed to also use the pool of the other).

You're probably going to want to stay at Jambo House, because it's the one with the grand lobby, and resort rooms, unlike DVC, have two regular queen beds, rather than the one queen and the one sofa bed that the DVC villa studios have.

Certain savannas are reputed to be better than others, but I'm no expert on that part. We stayed standard view at Jambo and had an amazing animal view, because even though we weren't on a savanna, we were next to a feeding station/watering hole, so there were animals outside our balcony 24/7. We saw lots of different animals, including giraffes.

We've stayed at both Jambo and Kidani several times each, with a savanna view every time, and have never had a bad room or bad view. All were DVC villas, so no experience with the difference from the resort rooms, but we did happen to notice the non-DVC offer bunk beds in some rooms, much to my girls' dismay...

Once we did have an awful savanna view at Kidani. We had a 2 bedroom that was at the very edge of the savanna right next to the pool. Lots of pool noise from the games and music. Had a better view of the bathrooms , than animals. And I don't know the name of savanna but it didn't have giraffes. It had type of hog .

We have been at AKL a 6-8 , most times the view is ok - good. Never had that room that is 100 ft from lobby and had animals day and night. But someone must get them.

I have never stayed at Kidani, but I have had good views in every savanna view room I have had at Jambo House.

They recoded most of the bad Savannah View rooms to Standard View after guest complaints several years ago. So there's a few rooms coded as Standard view that do have a Savannah view, they would be disappointing if you paid for Savannah View but are awesome if you were expecting a view of the parking lot.

I think the real question is what kind of animals would they want to see? That's the main differences between the Savannahs. Dreams Unlimited Travel has a good overview of the animals by savannah at this link.

We stayed in Jambo last July with a Savannah View. We were in a DVC unit on Kudu Trail and it was amazing. We saw plenty of animals every day, but mainly giraffes. 5th floor, room 5320.

We stay at AKL savannah view quite often. Our request is always for a low floor, since the higher up you are, the farther away from the animals you are and we prefer closer. I don't think we've ever had a "bad" view. We had a room once that was quite small--no second dresser in the entryway--but the animal viewing was so spectacular we didn't care!

I think Arusha savana is the one we liked the best. In the middle pod, we were in the 3rd pod of rooms and loved the view. Have a look at the resort map.
Some like low rooms to be closer to ground level. But we prefer a bit higher up for a more panoramic view.

If you're staying at a non-DVC savanna view, you will be in Jambo House (a stand-alone large building). Request Arusha savanna view, 3rd floor (which is the same floor as the lobby), close to pool (which is also closer to lobby and restaurants).
