I cannot find the AKL thread, so I'm just going to post this here and if a mod wants to move it, please do.

We're staying at AKL right now in a renovated room. First of all, the renovations are beautiful. I especially love the bathroom and shower stall. And it's great to have a dresser with 6 drawers. Also the smaller table really makes the room seem much larger and there's plenty of room on the tabletop.

However . . . without carpeting in the room--and I understand why many people don't like the carpeting--the noise from the room above is quite noticeable. Also the sound in the room itself echoes a bit. It's not a huge big deal, but it is annoying at 12:30 a.m. when someone comes back from the park and, with their shoes on, walks around their room or runs around it or bounces up and down on the floor. This was the kind of thing that was a nonissue when there was carpeting. I never heard anything. Now I hear everything. And, in general, sound travels more between rooms.

I'm just commenting on this. It must be this way everywhere now since I believe they've gotten rid of or are getting rid of carpeting throughout WDW.

Lots of people commented on this very issue when the first renovations were revealed. Yes, a hard floor is an issue with noise at the resorts. It makes it noisier for neighbors and it also makes the rooms themselves louder since there is nothing to absorb the sound.

Better get use to the vinyl wood floors, it's the way most of the renovations will be going.
We've stayed at AKL and GDT, the rooms are accommodated almost identically. We loved both resorts and didn't notice any additional noise issues from our previous stays at AKL.
Sometimes you just get unlucky and get people who don't know how to behave in hotels and don't care about disturbing others.
Unfortunate and aggravating when it happens however.

The industry standard now (here) is in apartment/condos is to put down a layer of cork under wood floors. It’s too bad WDW didn’t think of this for their hotels. I’m sure it goes a long way in absorbing noise.

I hope this is the case. We're staying at AKL in February. We were at YC in September with the hard flooring and we loved it.
All the rooms are not renovated yet. A large section of one of the wings (I don't know the names of the trails) was blocked off when we were there. I don't know when the renovations will be finished, however, we weren't bothered by any renovation noise or odors, since we were in a different wing of the resort.

BTW, the unrenovated rooms at AKL are also beautiful!

I wish that there was some way to check on the status on construction at AKL. We have a room booked for early Feb, b ut would move if we knew that construction was going to still be ongoing. We have pool view rooms booked, which are currently under construction/refurbishment. I am hoping that they will be finished before we go. However, if they are not likely to be done I would prefer to be anywhere else not under construction.

Unfortunately, Disney seems to be in denial that this is even happening! If it were not for the DIS I would have no idea that it is going on. When asking CM's at CRO, they maintain that no construction is ongoing at AKL!!!

Are they just doing the renovations in wings or by room type? We are considering staying here in a standard view room but would love to get a renovated room.

We are going in September will Jambo House be fully renovated by then.. or will i need to request a renovated room x
