AKL renovations start date??

Does anyone know when the work at the AKL began? Just trying to get a 'feel' for how it is progressing. Seems like the Kudu and Zebra trails are primarily finished, with a portion of the Zebra trail near the lobby currently in progress. That leaves the Giraffe and Ostrich trails are not yet started? Is that about right?

Is the Jambo pool in use or currently closed?

It is strange that WDW has zero information on the renovations going on at AKL when you book a room. Usually, they do mention any ongoing work when you check out the website and try to book a room. But nothing about AKL.

We were there in May 2019 and an entire wing was closed off for renovations--the one that overlooks the Sunset Savanna (sorry, don't know the name of the trail). Even the laundry wasn't accessible.

So, I think that would be the Kudu or Ostrich trail. Kudu overlooks the Arusha and Sunset savanna Zebra and Giraffe have the pool view rooms. Is the wing that was being worked on in May finished now, do you know?

Did you notice how extensive the renovations were around the pool area while you were there?

Was the Jambo pool closed at all? I was there on Labor Day and Veterans Day and both times it looked the same and was open. The scaffolding for exterior painting was up in November, I can't recall seeing it in September. We were upgraded from a DVC standard view studio room to a DVC savannah view one bedroom (it was an upgrade, not one of those reclassified rooms) in November, presumably b/c the standard view studios facing the pool were closed.

I didn't use the pool although I walked by almost every day on my way to the Mara. But I really can't tell you how extensive the renovations were.

You're right -- from the info I've seen, Ostrich Trail and Giraffe Trail are not refurbished yet. We were there over Thanksgiving and were in Giraffe Trail. CM told me it was going to be last.

That is good to know - perhaps the Giraffe trail would be a good request, then.
