AKL Pool View Rooms

Ahh! Thank you. So....do I want to be in Zebra Trail or Giraffe Trail? And in the curvy part just coming off of the lobby area or in the "sticky outy" part of Zebra trail??? Or do I just want to take my chances and not be all controlling and requesting anything?!?!?!? :confused3 :rotfl:

I know that the slide is supposed to be closed for refurbishment while I am there so perhaps I don't want to be looking at that?

Here's one view from the zebra trail that I just found this morning:

It looks like the one place I probably DON'T want to be is in the rooms above Jiko.

Here's the zoomed in part of that map showing the pool area rooms:

We are tying to figure out the exact same thing. We booked a Pool view room for our stay in January. Should I bother requesting a specific area?

I would love to hear some suggestions on the best area/floor to request. Our last AKL stay we booked a pool view room. In fact, I upgraded when we got there because I kept waffling back and forth about whether I wanted to spend the extra money. We got our pool view room, but it was with a king bed instead of 2 queens. And our view? Was a bunch of trees. We were in the building closest to the hot tub on Zebra Trail. I wish I could remember what floor, but I can't. I was just so happy to be there I didn't want to complain, but this time (since I book a pool view room again) I'd like to be better prepared.

There have GOT to be some people on the boards who can answer this for us! :goodvibes

Well, we were in the first pod of rooms toward the end. 4th floor. It looks like between Boma & Mara. If we looked to the right we could see the roof of Boma but looking straight we had a nice view of the pool. My friend was in the second pod above the wadding pool, and her view was obstructed by trees.
The sticky out part can be a good view if your not in front of a tree
Giraffe trail seems nice, but part of it faces the slide in question. The end section I believe is by the hot tubs. From the outside it looks nice!
With the balcony doors closed we didn't hear any noise from the pool. The person who said she did was at a different resort, and maybe soundproofing was different?

We have been on the 1 and 3 floors of Zebra and the 2 and 3 floors of Giraffe. The only section I didn't like was 3 floor Giraffe trail right by the smoking area so I asked to be moved. Couldn't use the balcony because too much smoke blowing our way. That is the only thing I have a complaint about. I liked the 2 floor of Giraffe the best, but the view was a little secluded. The trees covered a lot of the pool, but you get that on Zebra too. It actually was nice. It was close to the end of the hall right by the elevators. The elevators lead right out to the pool and if you walk left, the Mara, Boma, and Jiko are all right there. To get to the lobby you just go up to the 3rd floor on the elevator. Very easy.

Zebra has always been fine too. I find the Zebra side louder because I feel like the sound system faces more in that direction. Maybe it's my imagination, but our rooms on Giraffe have been slightly quieter. The Zebra trail is easy to navigate too. Close to the Mara and restaurants as well as pool, but slightly farther from the lobby.

So, overall preferred 3rd floor of Zebra or 2nd floor or 3rd floor of Giraffe in second section after Jiko the best. Those are just my thoughts though. Going back in August and will be requesting 2nd or 3rd floor Giraffe again in that very section. Hope this helps.

We just switched from Riverside to AKL last night. This will be our first time staying there and I'm sooo excited!!
We booked "pool view" and I requested Zebra Trail. I didn't know what else to request so I'm looking for all the info I can find.

We booked pool view also for our stay a couple of weeks ago, but when we got there, the CM said we had been upgraded. We were on third floor -- did not have to use elevator and were very close to the lobby. When they moved us due to plumbing issues, we were at the end of the hall on the Zebra trail. One balcony looked at the Savannah view, the other balcony the end of it viewed the Savannah and the other part was right over the night vision viewing area of the Savannah and we could see one of the hot tubs and the flamingo pool. It was great. We got different views from every direction.

The pool does have a lot of trees around it, but it is a beautiful pool area. They also show movies at night --- we watched Brave. You can see the movie from the pool, but they put chaise loungers out to sit on. When we went to Narcoosee's for dinner at the GF, we saw their movie area and there were no chairs. People had to sit on the ground.

AKL is amazing and the staff will bend over backwards to help you. You will have a great time no matter what room you have ----- except 3431. If you have that room, please report back and let me know if the toilet works!!! haha
Kept wondering if they got it fixed properly.

I miss Animal Kingdom already, but have a great view of a little white fluffy animal (our Maltese) every morning at home!!

Were you upgraded TO a pool view? And you were on a corner room with two balconies??

I've stayed in AKL Jambo dvc rooms surrounding the pool 3 times. I don't ask for a specific location. I will say the foliage has grown a lot since some of the pictures posted in this thread were taken. The pool is painted bright blue now also. The room with the best pool view we've stayed in was above the baby wading pool by Mara, Zebra Trail. I also like Giraffe Trail rooms! I don't find pool noise to be a problem, its quiet with the doors closed. The location of pool view rooms are very convenient, and if the foliage obscures some of the pool view it makes it feel tropical IMHO. Enjoy!

When is the slide closure scheduled?

I just checked the Disney travel agent website and found that the pool slide closure is scheduled for 1/14 - 1/18 and the pool will be closed 1/17-1/18. For some reason when I read it previously I could have sworn it was for much longer. But yay! Not a bad construction time at all. Last year we stayed at POFQ and the front entrance was all blocked up through our whole stay. It was a little inconvenient but mostly I just regretted having to look at the ugly boards instead of the pretty views.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you about that!

The AKL lobby is on third floor? Are the restaurants and counter service also located on the third floor as well?

They are on the ground floor, but the CS is not super close to the two TS restaurants

The hotel is built sort of on an incline, lobby appears ground level from front but you go up stairs if coming from Boma and Jiko and the pool area

So lobby is on the third floor and Mara, Boma, etc..on the first floor? I have never been to AKL, but we are booked for a July stay and have a pool room reserved. Trying to figure out where things are and maybe do a room request.

Yes. We had two connecting pool view rooms in Giraffe trail in January. We were about a third of the way down the hallway, I found tha t there was an elevator I could take close to the room that opened right a the side of the pool, I could cut through the pool area and be at the Mara for refills fairly quickly.

We were on the 3rd floor Giraffe Trail this past January trip, and we loved it! It was right off the lobby (the hallway next to the shop), so we were extremely close to everything. We would definitely request Giraffe Trail again! :goodvibes

ETA: Here was one picture of our view (I believe our room number was 3032).
