AKL Pool Question

I'm getting ready to pack for our trip in three days...woo hoo...and before I pack my eight month old daughters big pool float, I was wondering if she will be able to use it in the pool at AKL? We had no problem using it in the quiet pool at BCV in September, but we're not sure what the CMs at AKL will say since they only have the one large pool.

Although we were just there for 8 nights I'm not sure about the float. I don't recall seeing any big floats in the pool, but that doesn't mean they don't allow them. There were beach balls and of course the life jackets that AKL provides free of charge, but I don't recall seeing any big floats. I know last year, at ASMu, they wouldn't let my DGD have her fins that's we'd brought. I do know there are some restrictions. It might be worth a call to AKL to ask. If it were me, I'd leave it home, but we're flyers so I wouldn't want to take up the space if there was a chance we couldn't use it. I'm sorry I'm not much help, maybe someone else will know for sure.

How deep is the area that the slide drops into. My son is six and an ok swimmer but I know he would love the slide. However If it drops into an 8 ft section I dont know if he is ready for that.

The AKL pool is different in that I believe the deepest part is only about 5ft deep. It is themed to look like an African watering hole. So at the most that area would be about 5ft maybe less. Also, there is a lifeguard stationed right at the bottom of the slide.

The area where the slide drops into the water is only about 3 1/2 ft, I believe. I will check when I'm there for you though. A 6 yr old would have no problem with this slide.

I am 5'-6" and the water at the bottom of the slide came up to my chest. My 5 year old couldn't touch bottom. I waited at the bottom of the slide to catch him when he came down even though he was wearing a life jacket. The life guard didn't like me being there for fear someone might bowl me over and one of us get hurt. But I take no chances when it comes to my children.

The pool is the largest one on Disney property so there might not be a problem if the pool isn't crowded. But I agree, it would be best to call the AKL directly and ask.

Just an FYI the AKL pool is not the largest on Disney Property. Storm-A-Long Bay at the YC/BC is the largest as it covers 3 acers.

Actually AKL pool is the biggest pool on Disney property, Storm Along Bay is 3 pools in one but they don't connect.

I know my wife posted this at the top and it has moved a little off track, but has anyone had any personel experience with floats for infants that Disney has not allowed?

We leave shortly, and with the first snow last night I don't care if its 50 degrees I'm going swimming.

I don't recall seeing any, and I don't have any experience with not being allowed to use one, but there were a lot of babies in the shallow entrance of the big pool. I could sit there with my son on my lap. There is also a baby pool that would be good for her. It's shallow enough to sit in.

We loved the AKL pool & found it to be warm, even at night after a storm.

For a definitive answer, you're going to have to call AKL, but I'd have to bet that they wouldn't let you use a float, or an infant ring. Neither are true personal flotation devices, so AKL wouldn't want the liability that would come with guests using floats.

The lifeguards at AKL were very attentive/strict during our stay there in October - they policed not only the actual pool and conduct there, but the immediate pool deck as well. We were told that we couldn't be near the pool edge with our beverages (bought at the pool bar, and in plastic cups) and children were told not to stand on each other's shoulders/cannonball into the pool, etc. Going down the slide with your child on your lap was a big no-no too. Of course these are all safety issues, but I was just surprised by how vigilant these lifeguards were! Actually, I think they were doing a fantastic job, and I felt that my kids were safe even when they were across the pool from me.

I did see that they will allow children to were water wings or "floaties" if that is what you are asking. But again, call the AKL directly and ask. The number is: 407-938-3000 ; Fax - 407-938-4799.

Thanks everyone for your replies my wife has decided not to pack the float, I don't know how good she would have done in it anyway.

We leave shortly so Happy Thanksgiving everyone and maybe we will see some of you at the World.
