AKL points and incentives

Can someone tell me what AKL DVC points are selling for and what incentives are being offered at this time?

I just got back and bought the base package on Wed morning (4/23/08) for the new section at AKL. This is all new to me so I bought directly from Disney but I was very pleased with what I got (maybe not knowing any better). I think we done good. Let me see if I can remember...

I got 160 points IMMEDIATELY on a June UY (the only acronym I've learned yet LOL) BUT those points are only good for this coming use year and ONLY at SSR (oops, I caught another one!) and concierge (sp?) ands CANNOT be banked.

They gave me immediate points at the new AK section beginning in May but I CANNOT use them until next
June (when "my" actual home resort opens) at which time I will get ANOTHER 160 points. The first 160 can be used at any resort but cannot be banked so in essence, I have 320 available next June and STILL have the 160 for SSR this use year.

They gave me a bump back of $8 or 9/point in the form of an addion to my down payment bringing the down payment to about 17% if I recall correctly.

OH... and this was a great incentive too, I thought. I don't have any maintenance to pay until NEXT May (09).

I couldn't walk away from it. I thought it was a great deal. If I got burned, so be it. I'm very pleased. VERY pleased.

BTW, I'm interested in what other, more experienced members think. Was this a good deal. The guy told me this was the best deal he'd ever seen and that made me hesitate a little but it seemed to be just that so I bit.

Anybody know where there's a list of all the dang acromyms used around here? LOL

Could you clarify the 160 SSR plus 2x AKV points. I have a Feb use year and my guide seemed to indicate I'd get SSR for this year and then more points in Feb 2009 but not double AKV points for this year and next. Did I misunderstand her?

I called my guide again Friday night to make sure I had understood correctly. This is the way it has been explained to me every time...

1) I have been "given" 160 points IMMEDIATELY for use this UY (June, 2008) but these points are only valid at SSR and world something, I think. Anyway, the important thing here being these points cannot be banked and cannot be used at any resort except SSR. This is because my home resort isn't open yet.

2) I get 160 points for Kidani Village beginning in June but I cannot use them because my "home" resort isn't open yet. As I understand it, these points can be used in May or 2009 (assuming Kidani opens in May 2009) or they can be banked into my 2009 UY. I get 160 more (of course) in June 2009.

The way I have interpreted all this is that if I just use the "SSR points" this year, I can begin my 2009 UY with 320 points in Kidani Village. My guide did not dispute me when I Described this scenario to him. If someone thinks this is wrong (which apparently some folks do), please tell me but this is the way I understand this to work.

wow, that's terrific. I'll have to talk to my guide again. My guide was pushing me towards taking the AKV points that are available right now rather than the SSR/AKV point combo for 2009 Kidani. Evidently there are still some points for 2008 in Jambo for Feb use year. I'd rather wait and get more points!

If you are not planning to use your 2008 UY points in May of 2009, then you will need to bank them to UY 2009. Since you have a June UY, you have until the end of January 2009 to bank your 2008 UY points if you wish.

Your 2008 UY points can be used beyond May of 2009 only if you bank them in time.

Right. My guide didn't fully explain that to me but after having done a lot of reading (educating myself after the fact, if you will LOL), that's apparently what I'll have to do, yes. Just like you're assuming, I assumed that it's just like a normal UY except there's no home resort to use the points at. I would assume the points could be used somewhere else but I'm not sure. Maybe they aren't even taking bookings under that home resort yet (for owners at KV).

The details are a little fuzzy but I'm pretty sure I'm right on the points and when they're available.

The way I figured it was that I basically got 160 "bonus" points free for this year even if only for use at SSR (since Kidani's not "ready") and I'll have 320 beginning next June to bank and roll at Kidani village with (assuming I bank by Jan). Seemed like a brainless decision at the time.

My guide offered the same deal PLUS a $500 Disney gift certificate. The price was $104 per point, so no price break. We are still thinking it over. We are waiting for an inheritance to come through because we don't want to finance.

They offered me the $500 OR a developer incentive rebate too along the lines of $8-$9/point too. I chose to take mine in the form of an additional down payment. $500 or 1280+ became a pretty simple math problem for me. I figured it was cash outta my pocket, in essence; either way. I chose the 1280+ (plus no interest on that money assuming I decide to tote the note for a couple of years).

I also called again to clarify and it seems that new members get the AKV points and SSR points for 2008 whereas existing owners get only SSR if they buy in to Kidani.

i am thinking also about buying extra points for animal kingdom lodge but i am trying to work out what i have to put down cash at the close of the sale can any one help me based on 160 points as there is this $500 dollar offer.
