Hi
i want to book for 2 nights after a the DCL. We are planning to do most of the parks before the crusie so really want to relax and enjoy the resort.
Which one would you recomend and why?
i am travelling with DS( who will be 11 at the time)

We arrive back from DCL on a sunday and plan to relax at the hotel
Monday- maybe do a water park
Tue- shop/relax and fly home.

Any suggestion or hints would be great
Thanks

good arguements could be made for both as they're both nice resorts....
why do you say that at the WL it would be a villa?....
if you're considering a room at AKL, why aren't you considering just a room at the WL?......it seemed as if the rooms had better views than the villas at the WL...

anyway....the answer to your question depends on what you like..

at the AKL you can go to the pool (which is a very nice one), watch the animals from your balcony if you take a savannah view (which i would recommend if you stay there), enjoy the african theming....

at the WL you can go to the pool (which is nice but tends to get very crowded), rent bikes (my kids enjoy this - we rent bikes and ride over to FW and back), rent little boats, take a liesurely trip on the boat over to the MK, or CR....
enjoy the WL theming....
but if i were staying at the WL with just one child, i would stay in a regular room in the main building....in fact, that's what i did in august....

if it were me, i'd stay at the WL, for the reasons above but also just because i like to be near water and i adore the WL theming.....but i'm sure there are people who would prefer the AKL....the truth is, either one will be nice....

Hi Beth,
thanks for your responce. I was considering staying at WLV as i could rent points through DVC member.
My son and I stayed at AKL last year and really enjoyed it( savannah view was great) but read that WL was designed by the same person and was interested in other views. My son loves animals so we may end up in AKL but i think WL looks lovely.
Thanks again.

the villas at the WL aren't in the same building.....they're in a smaller building off to the side of the main building....it's the main building that has similarities to the AKL..............when at the WL, i prefer the main resort because i love that building so much (when we stay in a villa we stay at OKW)...

yes the WL and AKL were designed by the same architect, but the theming is very very different...they are both gorgeous buildings, but people tend to really like one or the other, not both...
the AKL is very dark and of course has african theming.....though i have enjoyed our stays there, i don't like either of those aspects of the resort (i hate the theme, as i'm not a big fan of Africa...i live nearby , have been and don't like it...or at least don't like the parts i've been to)....also the dark wood just is not to my liking..

in the WL, the architect used lighter color wood (to follow the look of the national parks hotels)....i love the theming and the look overall (of the main building...not the building where the villas are...which are in a separate building, off to the side)...

everyone is going to have their own view of it...what they like in terms of theming and look..
but as i said, i enjoy the fact that the WL is on the water......

If you hadn't been to either resort, I'd suggest AKL because it sounds as though you'll be spending enough time in the resort to enjoy the animals. However, as you've stayed in AKL before, maybe you should give VWL a try this time :)
but people tend to really like one or the other, not both...
I love them both (although I've only visited AKL, not stayed there). I think there are a lot of similarities in style between the two, albeit that the theme is different.

Have fun wherever you decide to stay :flower:
