Hi all!

I'm going to WDW with my mom in the spring. She wanted to go ahead and upgrade from a Preferred Room at Coronado Springs to a standard view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was only about $250 to upgrade.

Do folks feel it is worth it, without the savanna view? I've never stayed at AKL but really love the restaurants and decor there. We are only staying for 3 nights.

There are standard rooms with "partial savannah views." I recommend using Touring Plans' room finder/room request system. That's what I used in 2017 to get a view with a standard room. If you end up not getting any savannah view, there are overlooks everywhere. It's definitely nice to have the view from the room itself, but keep in mind the rooms are close together and it's easy to see everyone's balconies/through the glass doors.

I would definitely do it. We've stayed and both and love AKL. The lobby is gorgeous and there are so many great views around the hotel to check out the animals. I'm also a fan of having indoor hallways rather than having to walk outside to get to everything. Have a magical vacation!

Yes! It's a beautiful, unique resort with great dining. And some standard view rooms (request one on the Kudu Trail) have excellent animal views. We had animals right outside of our standard view room 24/7, even had a giraffe out there a few times. We were near a food station/watering hole. Not a sweeping savanna view (hence the standard room designation), but it was extraordinary for seeing animals right outside the room at all times.

We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge during June of last year. I always book standard because its 2 rooms and stay for at least 10 days. Well I requested any kind of a view possible. What they gave me was a 3rd floor savanna view the only thing being we were directly above one of the people pens. It was spectacular I have mentioned this before but I will again one evening while there was a light rain we watched a mother giraffe and her young one playing tag for about 20 minutes. Made the entire cost of staying there worth it.

AKL is my #2 resort in my line up of where we have stayed. Yacht holds the first spot.

I've stayed at AKL in a standard view room twice. Both times I got my request of a partial savannah view. It's definitely one of the coolest places to stay on property, and I prefer it much more than Coronado. Definitely do the switch, and request a partial savannah view at check in!
