Can anyone tell me about AKL and/or BW Concierge?

1) Are the rooms nice? What about the views?

2) What are the food offerings in the evenings?

3) Do they leave out bottled watter and soda for guests to take at anytime?

4) If you've stayed at both, which resort did you prefer?

5) Is there anything that disappointed you during your stay?

All replies are appreciated! Thanks!

This is my favorite resort!

We stayed in the same room twice: Queen, bunk, daybed. The room is dark, but I liked that about it. The furnishings are dark woods and beautiful! I'm not into the animals, but the view was nice and it was very peaceful.

The CMs in the lounge were wonderful. Don even played Buzz Lightyear with my DS5. Don also talks like Donald Duck!

Food Offerings: I think I remember reading on Deb's site (wdwig.com) for the full listings. DS3 loved the watermellon every morning and DH loved the evening offerings. Nice selections of African wines, too.

Water and sodas were not out, but all you had to do was ask. Never a problem.

This is the only resort where you can take the Sunrise Safari. We loved this and the second time was even better than the first!

Disappointments: NONE.

I hope this helps.

Lori,

Thank you for your reply, it was VERY helpful! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed AKL so much!

This is the resort I'm leaning towards, but DH wants BW, and DD wants CR! AGH! lol

I've stayed at both.

1) Are the rooms nice? What about the views?

Depends on what you book. At the AKl the non-savannah views are nothing I would want. I can look at a swimming pool or bus stop at home. If my choice was non-savannah view or BWI, I'd choose BWI. The rooms at BWI are larger, and very bright and airey. The rooms at AKL can have bunk beds, which is important to some people. They are also much darker in decor and to an extent, lighting. The bathroom space and dressing space is about the same in both resorts.

2) What are the food offerings in the evenings?

AKL was better IMHO, only because they offered some really unique items...African food, which was really good.

3) Do they leave out bottled watter and soda for guests to take at anytime?

No. You have to ask for it at the BWI, and I do'nt think they have small bottles of water like at the Poly that you can take to the parks with you. I do'nt recall ANY soda, and definitely no small bottles of water at AKL.

4) If you've stayed at both, which resort did you prefer?

Depends. Both have advantages. The staff in both were excellent. THe AKL has this incredibly warm feeling taht draws you in. You could spend several days there just participating in the storytelling, guided tours, animal watching, etc. It's jsut wonderful. BUT, the BWI has location, location, location, and a fabulous pool.

5) Is there anything that disappointed you during your stay?

Not at either. What is the makeup of your party, are you "commado tourers" and when are you going?

It's very hard to pick a resort at Disney. I want to stay at them all! And of course, that is my goal.

Although we've stayed at the Poly before, it was GV and on our next trip we will stay LV concierge. We almost stayed at AKL again! When first planning our trip, the plan was to stay at CR, but with no discounts that didn't work.

Next trip we might try BWI, or BC/YC; as Anne said: location, location, location! And she's right on the money there!

DH wants to stay at CSR and tour AK, then stay at BC and do Epcot and MGM, then stay CR or Poly and do MK. One of these days we'll stay at WL so we can do the campfire and other things near FW. We can dream, right!?

Good luck!

Lori

Anne - Thanks for all the great information. Our party will consist of myself, Dh, and 2 little girls, ages 9 and almost 3.

The trip will be laid back, with afternoon breaks for the 2 year old. One thing I really appreciated about the Poly was the availability of water and soda.

Lori - I understand about the discounts! I won't pay full price, so a lot depends on AP (or other) rates for June.

I'd love to stay at all of the resorts! If only we had the money, lol!

Have a great vacation, we just returned from the Polynesian Concierge LV. The view was incredible!

Teresa

Thanks for the infor on the view. DH will be excited to hear that the view is so good!

Thanks!

Stayed at AKL Concierge in May and just back from BWI Concierge over Labor Day.

Just to clarify BWI has soda and small botlles of water but these are warm. They have to go cups and ice. You have to ask for them they are not out. CM's knew what we were drinking after the first day and just got it without our asking.

AKL had small botlles of water and soda that were cold but you had to ask for them as well...no problem.

Stayed at the Polynesian several times the last time being this past 4th of July and it is great how they have the drinks on ice and out for you to help yourself.

I have to agree that the AKL food offerings were much better and that the lounge has a more warm feeling. BWI sweets were to die for!

Anne is right on about the rooms.

I would love to stay at AKL again, but the teens and DH love the doings at the BW. Great CM's at both.
