I haven't paid much attention to AKL because we like the monorail resorts so much. I have to say after looking at photos of that place I am ready to book!! The rooms look nice, the hotel looks gorgeous, and those animals...wow! Tell me, for those who have stayed there, can you really see them outside your window? I mean do the animals really hang out where people who have a Savannah view can actually see them often?

yes, they do. They are outside the entire time except for mid-day when they go in the barn for an hour or two to get any meds, get checked by animal caretakers, etc. We've seen them late at night and early morning, just about any time we are there.

Yes, you can see the animals from your room if you have the savannah view, and YES, it is an amazing resort. I loved it there.

Where did you find photos? Nevermind! I have Animal Kingdom VILLAS on my mind right now and I was looking for pictures of the new DVC resort there.

We loved checking out the animals from our 4th floor room...we noticed that the Giraffes usually did not come by until mid to late day (discovered that after taking a break from the parks...we wondered why we never saw them?:confused3 ...) but when they did come around, there were 4 or 5 of them...they would eat from the high ground cover right outside our balcony...we must have taken 50 pictures because we could not believe how close they actually got.:jumping1:

Overall the lodge was truly a wonderful experience!

I have never failed to see animals from our balcony during our stays at AKL except for when they are cleaning the savannah. I will try to post a few pictures of what we got to see from our balcony &/or other savannahs.

LOVE LOVE LOVE AKL!!

It is upsetting that they are making it a DVC property, because I've never wanted to buy into DVC until now.

You have got to get the Savannah view. We've stayed once with the SV, and one time with pool view. The pool view was pretty, but in July it was rather loud. Not worth the upgrade for the pool view IMO. Totally worth a SV upgrade. Infact, I wouldn't go to AKL without that now! I was wondering if it would be worth the little time in the room to have the view. It totally exceeded my expectations. I adored watching the early morning CM's come out with the hay/food for the animals and how the animals came out to get it right away. We are staying next month again. I'm really bummed that it can't be a longer stay!

AKL is amazing!

We were booked into a pool-view room at AKL, because I didn't think the hype about a savanna-view room would be worth the extra $$. Turned out that a package deal came out where we could switch to a savanna view room for the same amount of money as pool view. I almost didn't make the switch, but am SO GLAD that I did! WOW, it was spectacular! Pulling back the curtains in the morning to see mist rising from the ground and giraffes and zebras right out in front of the balcony ... priceless! And the AKL is an awesome resort as well; gorgeous pool (and flamingo pond), a large firepit, wonderful dining, gift shop, activities for kids, viewing areas all over the place. It's our favorite resort!

I loved the convenience of the monorail, but I would rather stay at the AKL. The Poly was beautiful, the staff wonderful, the transportation convenient, but I missed seeing the animals right outside of my room. The AKL resort is beautiful and tranquil, the transportation excellent and the staff is excellent. It is almost like stepping away from the stimulation of Disney and into another environment where you can relax and decompress. I loved it.

Since I now have the ability to post pictures, I wanted to share ours...

they still do not do the savannah room justice...you truly need to be there for yourself!

Thanks to OP for starting this thread and those who have posted! It has gotten me even more excited about staying at AKL! :cool1:

okay I'm sold! We will have to try AKL after our Poly stay! My kids would love the animals :) Thank you for sharing the pictures.

As for transportation...how is it?

I'm sold too! :thumbsup2

For the past few days, I have been trying to decide on a resort for the 2 days before our cruise. The AP discounted rooms are limited at this point and my choices are POR and AKL savannah. I wasn't really excited about either one until I saw the pics in this thread. Thanks everyone for making this an easy decision!

:yay: :cool1: :cutie:  :cheer2: :cheer2:
All of the smilies are for DD2!

OMG! So much better than our pool view from last August. I am convinced that the savannah view is worth the $$$$$.

Thanks for the wonderful pictures. We are staying at AKL in August. Is a particular floor better than others?

Some people prefer the third floor - same floor as lobby and high enough to get good views of animals. Second floor can be good too but in some places it is too low for good views. People say the higher floors can have trees in the way too - we've been up on 5 and didn't have any trees in our way.

Just wondering if you were on the third floor. Your view looks identical to the one we had in 2005.
