AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

We quite often go back mid-afternoon to nap/relax/etc before going back out for dinner and the evening.

For the list, we will be there 12/2-12/8 :)

Do you think it takes a lot of time traveling to and from ?

HI Everyone. We have two families (6 ppl and 4 ppl) for a total of 10 people. We can easily fit in a two bedroom villa but wondering if they will allow it? The grand villa is just so much more expensive. I am just wondering how us sneaking a 10th in will work with magic bands... dining... etc. HELP!

Thanks for your answer!... we were thinking of renting DVC points, so we won't be booking through Disney. Does that make a difference? I am wondering if we can purchase park tickets separately for the 10th person (our littlest is 5) but then how would that effect fast pass reservations. hmmm....

Here's the thread for questions about DVC occupancy

10 is over the occupancy limit for a 2 br., I believe. Best not to try to 'sneak' someone in, unless you want to have all 10 asked to leave should Disney catch you. Plus, you may get the owner you rented from in trouble if you try to pull something like this.
There are DVC options to accommodate 10 - the 3 br. grand villas are truly grand. Or you can book 2 one brs..

How long should we plan travel time form Jambo house to MK? We have one morning with an early 8:30 breakfast at crystal palace so how early should we leave AKL to get to MK? Thanks in advance

I would catch the bus about 7am. Simply because, waiting for the bus, plus getting to the gate and checking in to be allowed entry to the park may take some time..

Wondering if it is worth the time to take a mid day break at the resort while staying at AKL ? I mean since it is about a 30 minute ride to all the parks but AK ? We plan on staying next August and I know it is really hot in the middle of the day, so we plan on going back to the resort for a swim break.
For anyone who has done this is it time consuming or is better to just stay in the parks ?

I want to say we clocked the ride from AKL to MLK at 7-13 minutes..not including wait time.

It isn't a bad ride at all..time is added if you miss a bus and have to wait 15 or 20 for the next

I had the Mara Salad at the Mara restaurant at Jambo House on Tuesday. Yum! Best salad with chicken that I've had at Disney World.

Planning a trip for the week of Thanksgiving this year. Any thoughts on the pros/cons of Kidani Village Villas versus Animal Kingdom Lodge? We have previously stayed in the Club level of the Animal Kingdom Lodge and enjoyed our stay but want to see whether there may be something we are missing at the Villas. Our daughter will have just turned 6 at the time of the trip and enjoys watching the animals. We will be eating at least one breakfast and one dinner serving at Boma. We will not be eating any meals in the room. Let me know your thoughts - we have stayed on our last two visits at the Polynesian but are thinking of a return to AKL due to the construction at the Polynesian. Any and all comments and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hello All,

I've decided to lurk on this thread... need to make sure all is well at the home resort before we arrive! (anyone following WL thread will understand :) )

I have been planning a BIG retirement trip for DH and myself (i'm not retiring, but reaping the benefits of the trip)! We will arrive at OKW on 10/29.. we then move over to WL cl on 11/1... moving over to YC cl on 11/3 for some food and wine fun...AND THEN 11/9 we're comin' home! This will be DH first time at AKL, and his 2nd trip to the world (first trip was really short)! We will be at AKL cl until 11/14/14.

I have been planning this trip for about a year now, and just finished making all the food and wine reservations. We have several tours planned and some pretty good dinning plans! This trip is happening right after we move to Dallas Texas from NYC... So lots of exciting and fun things happening as well as some pretty big life changes!! BRING IT ON!!

Ok back into lurking!!

~N

That's not bad at all. I have read it takes about 30 minutes.

It is honestly NOT a half hour. The longest trip is 23 minutes to MK (yes, I am a freak and timed it) The problem is the variable in how long it takes to get a bus. We often rent a car for that exact reason. I hate standing and waiting for a car. Although I usually take a bus to MK. We usually take a break in the summer, because if we don't, then someone may commit murder. Plus if we take a break, we can stay at the park longer. Plus, Laura at the Uzumi Bar is great to talk to and makes awesome drinks. Anyway, the point of my story is to take a break.

Ok we will take a break but we wont have a car so it will be the bus. I know I dont want any of us committing a murder :rotfl:

One month to go until my trip. Time to start packing... On arrival day we were planning on just exploring the resort. Do they provide towels at the pool? I am hoping to not have to pack towels in my carry on?

We are only there for three nights before switching resorts, so what is the one "don't miss" food item? We have eaten at Boma several times, so I was thinking at Mara?

Thanks

I recommend the Zebra Domes if you don't dislike coffee.
I'm not sure about towels (I do think they are provided) but if not just take some from your room and get more from Mousekeeping.

Arriving at AKL in 2 weeks!:goodvibes

Other than Mara, is there anywhere else to refill the refillable mugs at Jambo House? i.e. is there a pool bar?

There is a pool bar I am not certain if they will refill it. But MAra is right there in the same area.

Totally agree with you on the Mara salads! Both of our stays at AKL we had salads one night for dinner, and it was perfect for a break from all the heavy foods we were having (we eat in a lot of signatures), and just overall yummy!

Yes, they provide pool towels. No need to pack them.

When I stayed at Jambo House in March, I wasn't happy with the bus situation. When the bus arrived to take us to the theme parks, it was already mostly filled with people from Kidani. No room for all of the people waiting at Jambo House. I ended up taking a cab to get to the theme parks.

Well, I just got back from Orlando. I stayed off-site because I was there for a convention. I went to the Magic Kingdom after the conference ended. I took a monorail to the Contemporary Resort.

The monorail pulled away from the Magic Kingdom, headed toward the Contemporary, and stopped.

There was a power failure at the Contemporary, and they didn't know what to do. We sat, and sat, and sat while they figured it out.

Meanwhile, I'm looking out the window. We were way up in the air. If we had to be evacuated, they would have had to bring in the fire trucks and take us down the ladders.

Fortunately, the problem wasn't with the monorail train itself. It eventually backed up to the Magic Kingdom, and we got off. But I swore I would never get on a monorail again.

If you're on a bus, and there's a problem, at least you can walk off the bus.

So I, personally, will never again complain about the buses.

(Or so I say now, anyway.)

We usually head back for a while right after lunch when the parks are the most crowded. We do a 7 pm dinner or so and we head back to the parks around 5 so we are not rushing to get to dinner. It helps a lot to rest the feet and body.

Another ,vote for take that break. This time though, my kids, DS11,DD8, kept up great. Come break time they didn';t want to leave. We did anyway.
