AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Decorating doors...so want to do this? We won't use tape...what to use magnets or sticky putty?

As someone else mentioned, there is a shield which takes up some of the door. You can do a Google search such as "photo Animal Kingdom lodge room door" to see pictures.

The doors are wooden, so you can't use magnets.

Also keep in mind that decorating room doors in deluxe resorts is somewhat controversial. The interior of these resorts is themed, particularly at AKL. If you put birthday banners on the door, some people might feel that it detracts from the theme.

Guess at WL that don't have issues with it. When we went on our trip last year it was for DGD's birthday. I had a box of decorating supplies and spoke with the CL staff and asked if they would like to decorate it while we went to grab dinner. They were very excited and happy to do it. I had brought some of that gummy stuff you use in dorm rooms, like silly putty, forget the name of it. I left the items and told them to do whatever they wanted. They hung stuff on the walls and put 3 signs on the door. It wasn't even me that did it, it was the resort staff.

Help!! I'm trying to figure out some food options. Can you get Pizza delieverd to this resort? I'm trying to figure out some cheaper options to eat. We are here four days and only visiting a park once. It seems to travel to another resort is expensive with a taxi and long with the bus system. I was able to snag one reservation at Rainforest. Thanks. Love to hear some food thoughts and ideas.

ETA - Never mind. Turns out there is only Pizza delivery to a few locations.

I do think you are over estimating how bad it will be to eat elsewhere. Hop the bus to DTD and you have tons of options outside of Disney even.

Have you considered having grocery delivery done? For sandwiches, etc it would work well.

I had looked into an app, downloaded one and wow, very weird menu set up. And most of them are just to help you fall asleep and work on a timer. Although I believe some have an option for no timer. Just not sure if I want that running on my phone all night(even if plugged)

Thank you though, maybe I should look into it a little more.

Have you tried Simply Noise? I think it just cost 99 cents. White noise, pink noise and brown noise all with an oscillating option and no timers to mess with. I used this every night at home for quite a while before deciding on a machine. I need it on top of ear plugs to drown out DH snoring. I have friends that like the Pillow app, but for me it didn't work as well.

Nadira ... This is our first stay at AKL as I have been a Grand Floridian fan for over 18 years with stays of 2 weeks at GF a dozen times : ) Hoping for some pixie dust as AKL and love to read others experiences too!

So really I've only had PIXIE Dust at the Floridian but here's top 3 pixie dust from there:

Twin grandsons 5th birthday and they set up the table in our room with a white tablecloth, plates and silverware ect. Both were given their own Mickey birthday cakes AND each heir own little red wagon filled with Mickey souvenirs, stuffed Mickey, autograph book candy and more. Also each had a Mickey balloon attached. Incredible birthday surprise for the twins ( pixie dust)

Got updated from a standard garden view room to a club level room for 14 days ( pixie dust )

Item we bought at disney downtown got lost or went missing being sent back to the Floridian ... The concierge came to our room got the receipts for our purchases the drove to DDT and got everything we bought plus added extra toy characters for the 2 boys and added candy and few other souvenirs. Yeah she drove to DTD got the items lost and drove back and then
delivered them to our room all in the same evening ( pixie dust )

We've never gotten like upgrades to suites ect. as I think those are rare but many magical moments of little surprises and some bigger : )

Anyone else? Pixie dust at AKL or anywhere else just for fun : )

I'm sure some here have done it but in the off chance they don't report back before next month I can. We are going on it and I can't wait! It's going to be so hot while we are there early morning, or late night are about the only good times for the Safari. We are taking the Sunrise safari one morning and then doing the last Safari of the day on our Harambe Nights day. Just to see each end of the activity.

Oh fabulous thank you! I so look forward to hearing about your safari experience and also about your harambe nights experience : ) I've read a few reviews of harambe nights and it sounds wonderful! I hope they add more dates and months I'd love to go during our November trip.
Oh yes disney world in July is hot for sure but we've always enjoyed ourselves no less with over 25 trips in the summer months. (( Fun & Fabulous ))

....off-topic, but when our neighbors visited WDW [they were staying at WL]when their DDs were younger, the younger of the two got sick. The DH took the other DD to the water park, while the DW stayed in the room with the sick DD. When she fell asleep, my neighbor hurried downstairs to purchase medicine, aspirins, and the like. While paying for it, the CM noticed all the medicines, thinking that SHE was sick. Well, she explained about her 8-y-o DD being sick in the room for 2 days, with the CM wishing her a speedy recovery. About an hour later there was knock on the door - it was a basket with goodies - Disney coloring books, a sticker book, some throat lozenges, a big stuffed Mickey and Minnie, crackers, a puzzle, get-well balloons, and it was accompanied with a bowl of chicken soup! There was also a get-well card signed by 'Mickey and pals'...

Not sure about pizza delivery but they do have a quick service area that certainly sells pizza and other options that are American standard fare. But honestly It's really not bad hoping on a bus and heading to disney downtown for a meal and actually it's enjoyable to look around the disney downtown ... It will be so fun : )
I have 11 sit down dinner reservations and 9 of them are at other resorts or parks and will be taking the bus, no biggie at all in fact that's the fun part of disney you enjoy your resort but wonder out and see the other resorts and explore!

That's a special kind of pixie dust : )

...you could order something from the Mara 5 nights in a row and not get the same thing twice! And, you could definitely get pizza there...

Is AKL usually a host resort for the Princess half marathon weekend? I am coming up on the 7 month mark and trying to decide where to book. I know the Epcot resorts are hosts, but if I can't get one I'd be happy to stay at AKV.

This is such a sweet, heart warming story!

I love these types of stories. I'd love to hear more if anyone has some!

Last trip was our first stay at AKL, we booked a pool view, but were upgraded to an Arusha view. We fell in love!

Nadira ~

While it was really fantastic that you were upgraded, having a pool view wouldn't have been too shabby either...;)

Everyone Thanks!!! this was also super helpful. Mara does have great options. I'm feeling much better now. We really weren't into traveling all over. Were just not there that many days.
Just want to relax and enjoy the resort.

all the resorts are host resorts for PHM.

Hi, We are staying at AKL for 5 nights from 27Aug 14 and have booked a standard room, through Hotels.com. A friend told me that I could end up in a dark room with no view at all as there is a canopy that blocks the window. I am okay with a parking lot view, as that was what I was expecting but still want to look out. I have booked a king bed with daybed for me,dh and ds16. I made a request for not ground level. Any advise will be apprciated, I was so excited but it,s taking the shine of now.
Anyone advise, please.

Anyone advise, please.

Did you plug in the standard view rooms at Touring Plans resort page? That should help you see what options there are at AKL. I'm not sure there are any ground level rooms there. If you mean floor 1, since that is where the animals are and they don't really want the guests hanging out with them ;)

The lobby is on floor 3. Is that what you mean by ground floor?

ETA - looked at the listing and it shows 7 rooms that are standard/king w/day bed. Was that a bookable category at Hotels.com? Or just a requested category?
