it was like a heavy icy snow, so many trees took a beating...we actually lost power last night too...so soon it will be tornado season here...and last year we did have a mild earthquake....think I am safe from hurricanes here though! lol

Wow, I had no clue Chicago got tornados and earthquakes!

All we get is light/medium rain, light wind and light snow. When we do get any heavy weather the whole country shuts down and it makes the front of every paper. London stopped for 4 days with the snow in my photo.

Stupid UK.

It also makes the front of the papers if our weather gets into the 90s or below freezing. As you can see, boring boring boring!

Hi everyone, since we are all enablers for each other :rotfl2:, I thought that I would post my current thoughts on my December trip. I am currently booked at Kidani from 12/5-12/15.

However, I have been thinking about adding another day and leave on Friday 12/4. (So that is decision #1 -> do I add a day?)

Now, I should have enough points to be able to book DVC for that night. However, I have been toying with booking either the Poly or GF if there is an AP discount for the 4th and maybe the 5th. Why those resorts? Well I have never stayed at them. (So that is decision #2)

What are your thoughts?

Tough decision but I'd go with the Polynesian or GF for both nights. Since those are weekend nights, you'll save a bunch of points and get to experience another great resort.

Of course, only you know your points situation. But I prefer to save some of ours adding to the flexibility for the next year. And I do love both the Polynesian and GF.

...my vote is for the Poly...I love the ambiance there...of course, if you want to experience something COMPLETELY different from AKL, then go for GF....did I help you any??

Henry is starting to learn some words-he says some very clearly, others not so much...does sign language for some and sounds for others!

Brooke, I've said it before and I'll say it again - he is the CUTEST! :lovestruc Of course, he reminds me so much of my little redhead DS6 - who just lost his first tooth! :sad2:
It's great how he only says "Mommy" - too funny!

I got a great bag for flight carryon. It's the smallest one in this image, the round one:

torsie - I love that bag! And the animal print would be perfect for AKL! :thumbsup2

Just checking in to say hi!:goodvibes As usual, I am far behind in trying to keep up.:sad2:
Love the pics I have seen posted recently:thumbsup2
Hope you're all having a great weekend!
13 days smoke free:woohoo:
42 more days until Kidani:yay:

Congratulations athenna! :cheer2:

Wellll...I think you should get there on 12/4 just in case my trip happens and we could have a meet! No guarantees here, of course. :sad2: Seriously - another night at WDW is always a good idea, and I'd vote for the Poly. I find the GF to be a bit hoity-toity for my taste. :snooty: It's beautiful, but I'm never quite comfortable there, KWIM?

Hmm, adding another day is definitely tempting. Maybe a book at a DVC resort and then wait for AP rates? I agree with all of you in that I think that I would go for the Poly before the GF.

If fri/sat are lots of points for DVC then you could always do one night GF/one night Poly.

I'm going to be staying at about 4 resorts in 2 weeks for my wedding trip, and am super excited, lol!

I know a lot of DISers who don't like the Disneyland Hotel at Paris becuase they feel its too snobby, but we loved it! I think the french staff add to it..Oui Oui! I don't think places like that need to feel snooty though, I always act just a chirpy and the staff seem to lighten up. (Exception being the New York Plaza where it seems they cannot smile.....)

So Elin, if you are starting a list of Jambo'ers..our dates are may 22-27th..

Well, if I started a list.... where could we maintain it? On the Creative DISign?DDA Board we have a dedicated thread. Hmmmm... I could probably just keep a running tab on a post on here, but when we move to a new "home" after 250 pages it would have to go with us.

Do you all want me to do this?

Roberta - I vote for adding on at the Poly. We never found the staff at the Grand to be snooty... just some (read many) of the guests! :snooty:

Wow, I had no clue Chicago got tornados and earthquakes!

The Chicago area gets tornadoes, blizzards and heat and humidity But earthquakes are exceedingly rare and usually can't even be felt. The only one I felt was in the 70s and even that was just a weird feeling. The epicenters are usually hundreds of miles away. I don't think an earthquake has done damage here in a couple hundred years.

...my vote is for the Poly...I love the ambiance there...of course, if you want to experience something COMPLETELY different from AKL, then go for GF....did I help you any??

I think that sums up the difference in the overall feel of the two.

We've stayed at the GF 8 times I think but only two were long stays. Most of the rest have been just the type of thing Donald is # 1 is thinking about. We've stayed 2, 3 or 4 nights at the GF before moving to DVC for 5 nights. DVC weekend nights are killers...about twice the points of a week night. I really don't find most guests to be hoity-toity in the least. There is a certain element that seems to think it's the only place to stay (maybe because it costs a bit more?:confused3) but most guests are the same as in the rest of WDW....just happy to be there with their families. At the GF, all rooms get turndown in the evening as well as a couple robes in the room. One of the biggest advantages of the GF is the restaurants...Citricos, Narcoosse's, GF Cafe and of course V&A are all excellent.

Now the Polynesian....ah, pure relaxation. We walk in the front door and just sigh. We've stayed there over 30 times.:beach: so I guess we like it. But these days, it's for short stays before moving to a villa.

The Polynesian has simply the best and most varied transportation options in WDW. Three beaches and two of those are usually deserted. Kona Cafe is wonderful for b,l, and d. All the GF restaurants are a short walk or monorail ride away.

The only problem with that is if you can't save your points by the time the AP rates come out. We usually book our DVC nights well in advance and then wait for discounts to come out for the weekend nights. Then we take what is available. Sometimes we get GF, sometimes the Polynesian. For our March trip, I was able to get a bounceback rate in AKV concierge for the weekend so we ended up in the same club 1 BR villa for the entire week. That was sweet.

Of course, with the realignment of points our strategies will change for 2010. We'll be less likely to move now.

Interesting to read that about DLP. Perception plays a big part in it, don't you think?

That's because we don't care for it:scared1:

At least not for dinner. We haven't had breakfast there for years.

...you've stayed away from the TONGA TOAST???!?!?!

Oh, my husband dreams of Tonga Toast I think.:goodvibes But it's served at Kona Cafe not 'Ohana. We never, ever miss Kona for breakfast.

These days you can also get Tonga Toast at the QS place, Captain Cook's. It is great through room service too. For a while, it was tradition on our last day to order room service with at least a couple orders of Tonga toast.
