I just used a postcard to get a $129 rate at the AKL in May. I know it's not the Savannah view, but I think it's a good deal. Anyone know of some websites devoted to AKL where I can get more info? Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

My favorite general WDW info site is Deb Will's WDW Information Guide.

Keep your fingers crossed - we had reserved a standard view room (AP rate) at the AKL for our trip last Nov. and when we arrived there were upgraded to Savannah view! Sometimes the Magic works...:-)

Suggestions:
* Have dinner at Boma - it's fantastic!
* Plan some time in the early evening (just before dusk) to just wander to the various viewing areas and watch the critters.
* Talk to the CMs - either they really are from various African countries or they are excellent actors! Great stories/info.
* Take lots of film (or a digital camera with lots of storage). I took a lot of pictures from the balcony every day, and from the viewing areas.

I enjoyed AKL (can you tell? :-) It allows you to 'play' (my definition of Disney Magic includes 'playing'). I enjoyed being 'on Safari' - and the resort really provides the perfect backdrop for such playing.

Thanks for all the great info! I already started looking for more memory for my digital camera!!! I would love to be upgraded to the Savannah view. My kids would enjoy it almost as much as me I bet! LOL I'll go checkout the links you posted. I need to do some research on the AKL. We were looking at staying at CSR or CBR before the postcard! Like 'Magic', it cam in the mail!

Congratulations on getting that great rate. We've been to AKL twice now, only for two nights each, but I honestly think it's a little piece of heaven here on earth. Definately try and get an upgrade, but if you can't, don't worry about it. It's an awesome place, and you'll love everything it has to offer.

$129 a night is a fantastic rate for a deluxe!!!!!! have a great time! AKL is beautiful! there are a lot of viewing areas you can go to if you arent able to upgrade!

I'm so happy for you!!!! What a fantastic rate! I wish I would get a postcard already!!! I do have $94 rate at CBR for May and I think it's a good deal...if I got a postcard however...Oh well!

I thought it was a pretty good rate too. I was planning on a moderate resort until this came in the mail right on time! I hope to get upgraded to a nice view, but it'll be fine either way. Looks like we'll be there at the same time Princess Angel. Hoping for perfect weather for us!!!

If the $129 is standard view do some homework about it, some are overlooking the driveway where youget dropped off. But there maybe some better choices. You will LOVE AKL!

And find out which rooms are near the bus stops etc. and call back if necessary and request a standard room away from that area.

I know exactly how you are feeling! We too had booked at another resort (Swan using the Teacher discount) but when a postcard arrived for the AKL we jumped on it. This will be a chance to stay there during peak season for a reasonable rate before our son heads off to college in a couple of years. We also decided to splurge and upgrade to "savannah" view for the 5 nights since the resort will be full we knew we couldn't count on a complimentary upgrade!

We've never received a postcard before and couldn't believe our luck especially since it came for a time we had already planned our trip at the Swan!

Now start reading everything you can on AKL and dreaming!

While these postcards often highlight a particular rate at a particular resort, you may find that they would also be good for similar discounts on a better room category, and at resorts other than the one highlighted on the card.

If you really want a savannah view room, consider booking one and paying a bit more money. At the level of dicount this card is offering, my guess is a savannah room would go for either $169 or $189 a night.
