AKL - how much?

We're looking to holiday around the 2nd April 2017 for 2 weeks at the AKL with a standard savannah view room.

Obviously the prices aren't available yet but I checked the cost for the same holiday in 2016 and it came back £11,400 ($18,000) for coach class flights, the 14 day ticket and our hotel room. A room at an all star with the flights and same tickets is £2600 to give an idea of how much of that is the hotel.

Surely it's not that expensive? Is there any way we can do this cheaper?

Yes. It is.

You could do a spit stay between two resorts, look at renting DVC points for a studio room or stay someplace else.....

in 3 stays there _I_ do not feel it is worth the money. Most people disagree.

We have a standard view booked at AKL for $191 a night in July. That is an AP rate, but normal discounted rate was $205 a night. I think savanna view was around $300 a night with the discount.

Rack rates are really expensive, but once room only discounts are available, they bring the prices way down.

I always suggest standard view at AKL to folks if you want to stay there but are concerned about cost. There are plenty of places to enjoy the animals aside from your room. You get all of the resort benefits, but you don't pay typical deluxe prices. For our 5 night trip, arusha view was $700 more than standard. Definitely worth saving $700 to walk out of our room and see the animals there.

Huge difference in prices. I looked at a 2 week stay, room only starting Apr2/16
AS Sports, standard room $1900 +/-.
AKL- standard room $6100 +/-
AKL- Savannah view $8600 +/-

I just stayed there on rented points. It was $2800 for 1 week in a 1 bedroom villa with standard view. The resort property is so beautiful that we felt we didn't miss out on anything by booking standard.

Our pool view room in August with summer discount and 15% off Orbitz discount is $230 per night (including tax). So that would be about $3220 for 14 nights. I am sure you can get the price way down as date gets nearer.

We stayed at AKL this past May with a 30% room discount in a standard room on the Kidani Trail. Even though it was considered a standard room, we still had a view of the Savannah.

It looks like I'd save a small fortune (£5,000) by renting DVC points.

I understand that the DVC rooms don't have maid service every day - is that something we can buy?

Yup.

Trash and Towel service is included in all stays of more than four days. If your stay is for less than eight nights, you will receive Trash & Towel service on day four. If your stay is for eight nights or longer, you will receive a full cleaning service on day four, and Trash & Towel service on day eight. After that, the cycle begins again on day twelve. Day one is check-in day. Daily housekeeping can be arranged and paid for at time of check-in. The following rates are subject to change:

Additional Full Cleaning Rates:
Studio - $30.00 for each day requested
One-Bedroom - $45.00 for each day requested
Two-Bedroom - $60.00 for each day requested
Three-Bedroom - $75.00 for each day requested
Additional Trash & Towel Rates:
Studio - $15.00 for each day requested
One-Bedroom - $20.00 for each day requested
Two-Bedroom - $25.00 for each day requested
Three-Bedroom - $35.00 for each day requested

Keep in mind with renting points you can save quite a bit of money, but you can't make changes to the reservation once you book and in most cases you can't get a refund if you cancel. Some of the rental agencies require payment in full when you book.

Did the May room discount go through the end of the month? Also, if you book and some of your days fall on the discount days but others don't, do you only get the discount for the days that fall on the discount days? I hope that made sense. Thanks

Have you in the UK?
If so look on www.disneyholidays.co.uk. I have just checked your dates for 2016 and hotel(savanna view), DDP, and 14 day hopper comes out at £5600. Book your flights separately (we find Thomas Cook quite reasonably priced and have always been good flights.

Yes we are in Glasgow. I think the issue is that eastern falls during the school holidays so I've modelled around Easter week rather than using the same dates in 2016.

The quote I had didn't even have a dining plan!

You must have made an error, that's a difference of almost $14000 dollars (between AKL and AllStar Sport). I don't see how that is possible. As a PP posted it's only $8600 for the AKL room. Perhaps I'm not reading your post correctly.

One thing I have heard by reading other threads on this forum and something you may want to consider (when the time comes). People have stated that an Annual Pass can be more efficient price-wise on long stays. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can verify.
